Bandcamp. The Fire | Vineyard Records UK. The Fire is the debut solo worship album from Samuel Lane (St Albans Vineyard Church) and the first full-length CD to be released under Vineyard Records UK’s new General Manager Jimmy Cooke. Recorded at CatBeach Studio in LA with Emmy award-winning producer Bobby Hartry (best known for his work with Jeremy Riddle) and some of the best musicians in the music industry (including John Mayer’s drummer Aaron Sterling), it also features Samuel’s brother-in-law and sister Darren and Jessie Clarke, writers of ‘I Love Your Presence’ and ‘Your Love Endures’. The Fire is the product of Samuel’s life as a worship leader and songwriter serving and growing in the local church.

Samuel also draws deeply from his wealth of experience and involvement in the worship of the Vineyard movement in the UK. The songs are full of passion, intimacy and honesty and the record communicates an authentic and heartfelt journey of faith in the presence of God. ▶ Beams Of Heaven: Indelible Grace IV | Indelible Grace Music. Music | Monstercat. ▶ Pounce EP | Monstercat. Chet Faker - Gold [Single] | Chet Faker. Medicine Man | The Bamboos. A revelatory, forward-looking record, with guests including Aloe Blacc, Daniel Merriweather and Megan Washington alongside the powerhouse stylings of regular singer Kylie Auldist, this stunning LP marks another twist in the tale for Australia’s kings of the groove. Masterfully blending blues, pop, soul and psychedelia influences with fresh ideas and stellar performances, they have forged a multi-layered pop sound they can truly call their own. An upfront taste of the album came in December 2011, with the limited edition release of “The Wilhelm Scream” feat. Megan Washington on The Bamboos’ 10th Anniversary 7”; this soul-gospel reinvention of James Blake’s dubstep ballad won over tastemakers including Rob da Bank (BBC R1), Steve Lamacq (6Music) and John Kennedy (XFM).

Next up, the first official single on 21st May will be the summery and laid-back “Where Does the Time Go?” Bandleader Lance Ferguson and his Melbourne nine-piece have come a long way since forming in 2001. Archer | Suzanna Choffel. Austin native Suzanna Choffel gave the songs on her new album Archer time to mature and build character like fine wine before she stepped into the studio to record with Danny Reisch (White Denim, Shearwater, Jesca Hoop). The result is 10 elegant tracks that flow from the jazz-oriented style of her 2006 debut, SHUDDERS AND RINGS, into a form she likes to call indie-soul-pop. It’s as fitting a term as any to describe the blue-eyed charmer’s dusky vocal delivery. To paint an even more specific picture, she’ll go with, “Smoky-voiced female lead singing pop songs with a little bit of an urban feel.”

Not that jazz has taken a back seat. It’s there in her scat-like phrasing, and in such instrumentation as sax and vibraphone. Take “Raincloud,” the first single. It’s poppy, but with New Orleans second-line horns by Big Sam’s Funky Nation. And though her subject matter might reflect uncertainty, the confidence in her voice is unmistakable.
