Neu | Elegant Chaos

Neu is a simple application that makes it easier to create new documents in the Finder, without you having to open an application first. It does this by adding "Create Document..." and "Create And Open Document..." menus to various places, including the main menubar, the Dock, and the Services menu that the Finder shows when you right-click on something. You can also trigger Neu from any application using a special key combination. Neu lets you choose what to make from a list of templates, which are simply existing files. Once you've chosen a template, Neu creates a copy of it, brings the Finder to the front, and selects the new file.

Status-Q » Blog Archive » wget for Mac OS X Leopard

http://www.statusq.org/archives/2008/07/30/1954/ July 30th, 2008 Three years ago I compiled a version of the ‘wget’ utility so that it would run under Mac OS X and uploaded it to Status-Q. It’s had an amazing number of downloads, and I felt it was probably time to update it!
by Rob Griffiths , Macworld.com Dec 4, 2009 8:46 pm Does your Mac usage involve sending lots of e-mail messages? So much so that you’d love to be able to send an e-mail from any application, regardless of whether or not Mail is already running? While OS X provides some Services to send e-mail based on selected files or e-mail addresses, there’s no global “I’d like to start a new e-mail message” command.

Font problems and management in OS X | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews

There are several approaches to managing fonts, some that are crude (ie, "remove them all and start over") and others that take a long time, depending on the task. One problem with troubleshooting fonts is that it's a fine balancing act. While the presence of some fonts is required for certain application or system features, those can conflict with other fonts that are required for other features. As such, if you remove the wrong one you can solve one issue but introduce another. Global font management has been desired for years, and while there have been advances, no solution encompasses everything.
