Dorothy Iannone BERLINISCHE GALERIEAlte Jakobstrasse 124-128February 20–June 2 Dorothy Iannone, Your Names Are Love Father God, 1970/71, collage, acrylic on canvas, 75 x 59”.

Like her contemporaries Niki de Saint Phalle and Pauline Boty, Dorothy Iannone uses ecstatic color and patchwork forms to express female sexuality. But the multitude of paintings, drawings, books, sound installations, and wood sculptures made between 1959 and 2014 that fill much of the ground-floor exhibition space for her retrospective present a darker and more compelling psychological story. In Your Names Are Love Father God, 1970/1971, a large-scale collage and acrylic canvas depicts a male figure, wearing strings of big beads, bracelets, and an armband, who has one hand on a naked woman’s breast and the other hand reaching for her vulva as he appears to push her down onto a platform of decorative forms, with the work’s title written under her body. . — Ana Finel Honigman Rachel de Joode — Melissa Canbaz Tatiana Trouvé.

Related photos » By David Ng August 5, 2013, 11:56 a.m. Lady Gaga is a big fan of Marina Abramovic, and vice versa. The two outré personalities -- the former from the pop-music world, the latter from the realm of performance art -- have sung each others' praises about their shared taste for provocative visual statements. On Saturday, Lady Gaga teamed up with the artist by lending her time and speaking voice to a marathon reading of the sci-fi novel "Solaris" that took place at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn. The reading lasted eight hours -- the book is a little more than 200 pages long -- and featured Lady Gaga reciting a section of the Stanislaw Lem novel via video. The event was a benefit for the Marina Abramovic Institute, which is planning to build a performance art and performing arts center in upstate New York.
