North Canton Public Library

The North Canton Public Library is an independent library system and not affiliated with the Stark County District Library System. It was founded in 1926, when the North Canton Library Association was established. The purpose of this association was to own, maintain and conduct a free library for the residents of North Canton and its school district. The first library opened its doors on January 27, 1928 in one room of the North Canton Community Building on Main Street. In 1953, the library and the Little Art Gallery moved to its current home at 185 North Main Street. Further growth of the library in the 1960s led to more expansion, when a $600,000 addition was completed in November 1969. This addition increased the size of the library from 8,400 square feet to 23,000 square feet. The latest addition and renovation project was launched in March 2001, and added 7,000 square feet to the existing library. The three-story addition included new Audio-Visual and Fiction areas, a new art classroom, and new staff work areas. The renovation added a new Magazine and Lounge area, new Circulation and Reference desks, a Young Adult corner, a new meeting room on the lower level, additional Internet computers, handicapped accessible restrooms and elevator, as well as new ceilings, lighting and carpeting. The purpose of the North Canton Public Library is to serve the community, and to enhance the quality of life of our customers. The library accomplishes this goal by selecting, maintaining, and making available resources that serve our patrons informational, recreational and cultural needs. The library wants to establish a life-long relationship with every person, from preschooler through senior citizen, and works to reflect the changing needs of our community in its collection. Our North Canton Public Library staff is dedicated to providing our customers with excellent service. If you have a question or need assistance while you are in the library, please ask our friendly staff to assist you -- we will be glad to help!
