Joyful Weddings and Events » Urban Loft Tablescape for Utterly Engaged. Back in January, I had the privilege of collaborating with JL Designs and Olive Hue to create a tablescape for Utterly Engaged’s design challenge. If you have not heard of Utterly Engaged- you need to. It is a wonderful wedding e-zine and is always full to the brim with inspiration. As a part of their New Years party, they invited teams of wedding vendors to create a tablescape to display and be voted on at the event. The guidelines for the contest were: 1. the tablescape had to be MODERN 2. the focus of the tablescape should NOT revolve around flowers but rather some other element – paper, wood, metal, etc. 3. we had to spend $150. or less (not including rentals – we could use whatever rentals we wanted but no chairs) I am so proud of what we came up with and how it turned out! While brainstorming what we could do that would be truly unique, Carissa struck gold. We used the same yarn on the napkin treatments.

Jane also created these cute tags for the glasses: Love Rocks. Pin It Look at these river rocks I found. They're heart shaped. And I carved them, and I'm going to give them to Jon for Valentines Day. Ah ha! Form it into a heart shape. Then write your message into the wet clay with a toothpick. After you carve it in there nice and deep, run the wet clay heart under water to smooth out the bumps around the letters.

Now let it dry completely. Keep picking up white paint and black paint and stipple stipple stipple. Make sure you get down into the words you carved. Paint the top, let it dry, then paint the bottom. Voila. Perfect for the man who has everything or for the man who has very little in the material sense so you can't really go spending his money on stuff for him except for when his underwear finally falls apart. From Carol: For our favors, we want to give our guests something gorgeous to wear during our wedding so that everyone feels like a guest of honor. We’ve decided to make ribbon wristlets for the ladies, and boutonnières for the men, in a Jane Austin theme … ie, with feathers, pearls and lots of ribbon!

We’re going to present them atop pink gift boxes filled with foil-covered heart chocolates. Our favors are also doubling for place cards as we’re putting an oval thank you card with each guest’s name on it in front of their gift. What You’ll Need: (All these items are available at most leading craft stores) Instructions: Steps for the Wristlets: Step 1: Seal the edges of the ribbon lengths with a lighter so they don’t fray Step 2: Cut several flower heads from their stalks so they’re flat underneath. Step 5: Cut pieces from the feathers and glue them in under the flower heads. Cute Calendar Wedding Date Keepsake. How to make pretty lights... | kootoyoo. Ambient light in 5 minutes flat! The jar lights I made created quite a bit of interest. The benefit of using LED lights over tealights is safety & if you’re having an outdoor party you don’t need to worry about weather as the light would of course be protected by the lid of the jar.

Edit: I used large jars which were purchased very cheaply from a homewares store but used kitchen jars would work too. If you want uniformity with the the lids then perhaps a coat of paint? The LED battery operated lights that I used were purchased from Bunnings. I’m seriously considering setting up something in the garden similar to this brilliant piece of garden art… freshly installed& 3 months later which was inspired by Margie’s project here. Of course, you don’t really need a how to…it’s a speed demon type project. & because I wanted to try out the embed feature through Google Docs… you just need to click the little icon in the top right (open in new window) if you want to print the pdf.

We’ll be picking up the pace posting more entries next week, but I wanted to leave you with one more DIY Contest submission before the weekend! Remember you have until next Thursday to send over your DIY project for a chance to win $500 (for first place) and $100 gift certificate to drool worthy jewelry from Wendy Mink. Just email me 4-6 images that are 600 pixels wide, a list of materials and instructions to amanda @ruffledblog.com. All you have to do is incorporate an old or used item in a DIY project! Julia is our next contestant, who made this adorable paper plane mobile. The little planes were made out of maps from an old atlas, which gets me thinking of engaged couples with long distance relationship or just having a travel inspired wedding… What you will need: Instructions: Step 1: Measure and cut the map into 10-15 squares measuring 4×6” and 5×7”.

From Julia: This airplane mobile is a great alternative to a centerpiece at a wedding. DIY Votive Candle Wrapper from Old Book Pages as Vellum. We’ve got a busy day ahead of us, and lucky me to be swimming in a pool of amazing entries! Another project by Kayla, this time giving pages from an old book a new life as these adorable votive candle wrappers. Old pages lined up against a votive candle holder works like vellum paper when the candle is lit. What you’ll need: - Vintage Book Paper - Mini jars or votive candle holders - Cutting Mat - Glue Stick - Ruler - Pencil - X-acto knife - Tea light or small votive candle Instructions: With the exception of the vintage book pages, all the materials can be found at any craft store.

You can start this project a million ways. Step 1: Find some old jars you have laying around the house (I had a salsa jar and a relish jar today). Step 2: Using your ruler, measure the height of your jars. Step 3: Do a dry run with your paper and make sure it will wrap all the way around your jar before you start cutting it. Step 4: Lay the paper strip you have just cut flat on your work surface. DIY Vintage Bottle Hanging Manzanita Branch Centerpiece. Next up is Ashley’s DIY suspending glass centerpiece. Using small vintage bottles and manzanita branches, she created a gorgeous centerpiece that could be used to decorate escort card or guest book tables. The first place winner will receive $500 and second place a $100 gift certificate to Wendy Mink Jewelry, so this is huge. Voting won’t start till all selected entries are published, so sit tight!

Materials Needed: - A variety of vintage glass bottles in all sizes, such as old medicine & perfume bottles, and lonely salt-shakers that have lost their companion along the way. All of these can be found at any vintage or thrift shop. - One spool of 24 gage wire in gold or silver available at hardware store - Wire cutters available at hardware store - Coral or Manzanita Branches found at craft supply stores - One Tall Vase (that you already own or purchase at a craft store) - An Assortment of Flowers found at any nursery or florist, or in your own backyard. Ruffled? | DIY Vintage Save-the-Date. I am beyond thrilled to be a guest blogger for Brides Magazine today!

This save-the-date project I created is so easy, it almost feels wrong! With the same concept, you can make menus, escort cards and place cards stamped on nearly anything. Think vintage hankies, napkins, kraft paper, … any flat surface will do (be sure to buy metal/glass ink pad if you’re stamping on hard surfaces). With a stamp kit from Staples (about $25 with ink pad), I created this simple save-the-date card using vintage postcards I found on eBay. Alternating between the large and the small fonts, I placed the letters on the stamp with the help of the tweezers that come with it.

And while we’re at it, stay tuned for our second annual DIY Contest — coming soon! Heart Escort Cards How-To. DIY Weddings. DIY Paper Lace Doily Lanterns for Wedding Lighting. We have another fun entry to share with you – and we’re only a third of the way through! Belinda put a twist on the traditional paper lantern by turning it into an airy, whimsical doily lantern. We could never tell the final look was DIY and not purchased at a design boutique. What you’ll need: - Paper lantern - Paper doilies - Scissors - Double-sided tape - String to hang Instructions: Step 1: Cut a bunch of doilies in half.

Step 2: For the top few doilies, cut out a semi-circle so it will fit around the opening at the top of the lantern. Step 3: Stick to the top of the lantern. Step 4: Place double-sided tape on the wrong sides of the halved doilies at the top. Step 5: Stick underneath the top doilies in the middle of the gaps, so they’re overlapped like fish scales. Step 6: Continue all the way around and down to the bottom. Do-it-Yourself DIY String Wedding Lanterns Yarn Chandeliers. DIY Aluminum Lanterns using Upcycled Radiator Perforated Metal Sheets.
