Amy Lowell Scholarship for American Poets Traveling Abroad. The Steve S. Kang Scholarship Fund - Background & Purpose. On April 2, 1998, Steve S, Kang was killed in an automobile accident. He was just 28 and a graduate student at the University of Southern California's Film School. At the time of his death, Steve was working hard to complete a film for a school project. This film was funded in part by a scholarship that he had received the previous year. Following Steve's death, many friends and family members thought it would be an appropriate memorial to Steve to establish a scholarship fund in his name. To date more than one hundred individuals and organizations have donated money and talents to The Fund. We established The Fund on the principle that funding is often a critical need to talented individuals who are developing their careers as artists and scholars. Our goal is to support creative students and young professionals in the arts, humanities, and sciences who have a passion for their chosen field but lack the funding to achieve their dreams.
Capture the Dream, Inc. The goal of our scholarship fund is to help eliminate one of the leading obstacles preventing single parents and minority students from attending college – the soaring cost of tuition. We believe that when all students have the opportunity to attend college, our society thrives. If we provide these talented students with the means to higher education, we may be developing the future leaders of the Bay Area – and of the world. On average, tuition for higher education increases annually by 8% – thereby effectively doubling the cost of tuition every nine years (FinAid.org 2012). As the price of college soars, more students are left without the means to attend. The Single Parent Scholarship – $1,000 per recipient Low-income single parents who are Bay Area residents* and who will be enrolled at an accredited, not-for-profit 2- or 4-year institution in the fall are eligible to apply.
We choose recipients for both scholarships based on the following factors: Scholarship Detail. Benefit Finder. Find Services. When looking for financial assistance, remember that there are differences between grants and loans. Your state's human service or social service agency might also be able to provide financial assistance or refer you to local community organizations for help. College Partnerships. College Partnerships For some of our corpsmembers, the CCC experience may offer the opportunity to attend classes at their local community colleges or online via the Internet. Since the mid 1980s, the CCC has worked with community colleges to develop a broad range of training and education services. An example of this is the San Luis Obispo Center’s partnership with Cuesta College. The CCC and Cuesta College are working together to develop courses and standards for technical and academic training. Other locations such as Redding, Monterey Bay Operations and San Diego have similar partnerships. The following California public education systems compose the post-secondary CCC alternatives:

PSAT/NMSQT Scholarships & Recognition. The National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) identifies academically outstanding Hispanic/Latino high school students. Each year, the NHRP honors about 5,000 of the highest-scoring students from over 250,000 Hispanic/Latino juniors who take the PSAT/NMSQT®. These students are from the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Mariana Islands and the Marshall Islands, as well as U.S. citizens attending schools abroad.
Approximately 200 of the top-scoring PAA™ students from Puerto Rico are also included. Although the NHRP does not provide a financial reward, being named is an important academic recognition, and this achievement should be indicated on your college applications. NHRP Eligibility Requirements In order to be eligible, you must meet these requirements. Take the PSAT/NMSQT in October of your junior year in high school.
Your high school counselor will provide your junior year cumulative GPA and verify your ethnicity designation. NHRP Important Dates. Ivy League admissions for NHRPs. Hi, obviously being and NHRP is just another resume booster for your admission to schools but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Ivies. There is a book called A is for Admission by Michelle Hernandez who worked in admissions in Dartmouth. On pp. 204 she discusses a student of Puerto Rican descent who has SAT scores cumulative of 1900 with SAT subject tests that are pretty poor, like 550 in SPANISH subject test!
Yeesh 550 for a Hispanic student? Free tutoring at home? I had my daughter take Latin as I figured it would look like a freebee for a Hispanic student, even though we speak English at home, to take Spanish--she goes on to list a 640 on math level 1 and a 490 in Physics. I have been figuring D needs to get at least 2150 give or take 50 points to have a shot at schools like Brown, Dartmouth etc. as although these may be the average SATs the real average is a lot higher counting for sport, legacies etc. Post edited by waitlistman on. The Leopold Schepp Foundation | Founded in 1925. The Christophers, Inc. NEW YORK, April 1, 2014 – Leticia Smith, a Sociology and Social Work Major at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Cal., took the top prize of $2,000 in The Christophers’ Twenty-Sixth Annual Video Contest for College Students for her video entitled “The Right Way.” Against a backdrop of corresponding pictures and video montages, Smith explains how her inner-city upbringing inspired her to pursue the study of sociology.
All of her philanthropic work throughout college, from volunteering at Habitat for Humanity to serving meals at homeless shelters in Arcata, has only strengthened her resolve to give more of herself to others in need. “It [my charity work] made me more determined to help troubled youth because I’ve known what it’s like not to have someone help you through life,” Smith concludes.
“I plan on opening up an alternative house for troubled youth, where they can come and live if…they live in troubled communities where they can’t get away from the violence. Past Contests.
