I wrote this as a reply to a comment on White Girl in a Sari’s blog , and soon realized I had written a rather lengthy post instead of a quick reply! The commenter mentioned being nervous about meeting the parents, based on their responses to her existence (I say “her existence” because it can’t really be about HER until they’ve met her), and she said that she hoped they liked her eventually. Thus, this is based on my current understanding of the differences between White American parent (I specify “White” and “American” because it’s what I know) and South Asian parents (based on my husband’s family, my BFF’s family, and other Indian friends). This is all my opinion, of course, but I try to be as unbiased as I can. Marriage and Family One thing that’s helpful to remember about most South Asian families is that family and marriage are HIGHLY valued .

White American and South Asian parents « A little of that, too
