Such an incredible use of paint to create depth of focus and the reflection of light on skin. (via cosas cool) Delightful Paper Pop-Ups by Jenny Chen. Florian Nicolle Updates. Illustrator Florian Nicolle (previously) has published a wonderful collection of his textured illustrations from 2011.

Layering scans of newspaper, ink, paint, and a fair amount of digital retouching he arrives at these truly remarkable portraits. See more on Behance. I’ve long been a fan of Minnesota artist Gregory Euclide (previously here and here) whose intricate multimedia installations and sculptures often contain an unusual mix of visual elements ranging from strange architectural creations to natural phenomena like trees and rivers built from uncommon materials.

New Temporary Whiteboard Drawings by Gregory Euclide

Euclide also works as a high school teacher and during his brief 25-minute lunch breaks has been exploring the limitations of time and materials by creating these gorgeous temporary ink drawings on a standard school whiteboard. Via David B. Smith Gallery, he says: “In our culture, there is a strong emphasis on reproduction and the original seems less important. My students were shocked when I would erase the original, because they saw it firsthand, and they were disturbed that it was destroyed. The series of works called Laid Down and Wiped Away is now available in limited edition prints over at David B.

Cesar Del Valle’s Illustrations Interact with their Physical Surroundings. Columbian illustrator Cesar Del Valle‘s drawings are so detailed they could practically be photographs and if the illustrations weren’t realistic enough he then has them interact with the physical world they find themselves in.

Cesar Del Valle’s Illustrations Interact with their Physical Surroundings

A figure delicately balances on a pencil protruding from a wall or a girl balances on an actual string affixed to the canvas. I have a feeling his artwork would make an even greater impression seeing it firsthand, but regardless this is truly remarkable stuff. A Multi-Colored Sprinkler Paints On-demand Rainbows. Stunning Animal Portraits Drawn with a Bic Pen. This is Not a Photograph: Amazing Portrait Drawn with Ballpoint Pens by Samuel Silva. Nope, not a photograph.

This is Not a Photograph: Amazing Portrait Drawn with Ballpoint Pens by Samuel Silva

This is an amazing portrait drawn by 29-year-old Portugal-based attorney Samuel Silva (he says art is just his “hobby”) based on a photograph by Russian photographer Kristina Tararina. Silva’s medium of choice is standard Bic ballpoint pens on paper and this particular portrait uses eight different colors, taking some 30 hours to complete. The drawing went gangbusters on Reddit last night and Silva fields a number of questions about his work over on deviantART. You can see many more of Silva’s drawings here.

New Stencils by C215. Prolific street artist C215 (previously) has been making new work seemingly all over Europe lately with stops in Lisbon, Barcelona, Dublin, London, and elsewhere.

New Stencils by C215

His vibrant stencil works rely on carefully layered fields of color and texture making each piece seem like it’s practically illuminated from behind. You can explore his Flickr page for many more works, and he opens a solo show at Montana Gallery in Barcelona on December 13th. Illustrations by Budi Satria Kwan. A number of splendid illustrations by Singapore-based designer and illustrator Budi Satria Kwan.

(via wicked game) Portraits Drawn with Tea, Vodka, Whiskey and Ink by Carne Griffiths. UK-based illustrator Carne Griffiths creates these striking portraits with uncommon mediums such as tea brandy, vodka, whiskey, graphite and calligraphy ink. His drawings most frequently explore human and floral forms, as says he’s “fascinated by the flow of line and the ‘invisible lines’ that connect us to the natural world.” The four pieces above are part of a limited edition postcard set just released by Griffiths, each of which comes in a fancy custom-illustrated, wax-sealed envelope. He also has a solo show at Ink-d Gallery in Brighton that closes this Saturday. (via behance) 3D Illusion Drawings by Ramon Bruin. Zach Johnsen: Acid Over Easy. Amazing Timelapse Video of Patrick Vale Drawing the Manhattan Skyline.

This is a great video of UK illustrator Patrick Vale drawing Lower Manhattan as viewed from the Empire State Building, entirely freehand. The music is Moanin’ by Charles Mingus. Dramatically Blurred Oil Paintings by Valerio D’Ospina. I’m really enjoying the perspective and mood in these oil paintings by Valerio D’Ospina. Born in southern Italy but now living and working in Pennsylvania the artist paints gritty scenes from industry including ship yards, trains, and factories as well as broad “urbanscapes” that are captured from a dramatic, almost blurred perspective.

His most recent solo show was at Hall Spassov Gallery back in October. Amazing Color Pencil Portrait by Amy Robins. Based on a photograph from Benoit Paille (previously) artist Amy Robins drew this impressive portrait using little more than colored pencils, cartridge paper, and quite a bit of talent. Illustration of tea. Tea Illustrations by Andrew Gorkovenko. As part of a series of packaging designs for Triptea, designer and illustrator Andrew Gorkovenko created these surprisingly wonderful illustrations utilizing the tea contained within each box. This execution seriously goes above and beyond to create a great brand for simple product. You can see much more on his website. Unsettling Watercolor Illustrations by Dima Rebus. Illustrator Dima Rebus was born in a small town in Russia in 1988 and graduated from art school in Moscow in 2011. Colorful Portraits, Hands, and Figures Painted by David Agenjo. A Stunning Watercolor Speed Painting by Agnes-Cecile.

Since first discovering the work of self-taught Italian painter Silvia Pelissero aka Agnes-Cecile (previously) earlier this year, I’ve become a huge fan of her drippy, ethereal watercolor paintings. I just now learned that she’s recorded several timelapse videos showing how she creates each piece. The recent clip above shows a painting she completed over 1.5 hours as part of the 1000drawings project last month. Portraits by Michael Shapcott. Connecticut-based artist Michael Shapcott creates wonderfully colored portraits by starting with graphite underdrawings that are then painted with washes in oil and acrylic. He currently has work at Thinkspace in Culver City through March 24th, and you can buy prints at Society6. Shapcott also shoots detailed process videos and makes them available via YouTube.

Birds in Books. Pennsylvania artist and designer Paula Swisher takes doodling in the margins of old engineering and science manuals to new heights. She began the illustrations using nothing but ballpoint pen and white-out similar to Mark Powell’s envelopes, but soon explored new materials including colored pencil, gouache and other mixed media like thread and cut-out paper.
