Homemade Southern Sausage Gravy. Southern biscuits and sausage gravy - talk about some good ole comfort food. I've made my gravy this way for as long as I've been cooking, but it's not like there's really much of a secret to it really. To be honest, I'm guessing just about all of us southerners make it pretty much the same way. Today's breakfast sausage is far leaner than it used to be and doesn't create a lot of pan drippings, so I do add in additional butter, bacon fat, or even a combination of the two. I really think that it adds a wonderful richness to the flavor of the gravy. The milk will depend on the consistency that you want for your gravy. Start whisking in about 2 cups, then add additional milk as needed to reach the consistency that you prefer.

A plate of soft scrambled eggs and a side of creamy grits would sure round that meal out pretty good if you ask me. Now... let's go make some good ole southern biscuits and sausage gravy! ☛ Are you on Facebook? Check These Recipes Out Too! Fresh Tomato Pasta Sauce. We're already heading halfway into the month of July, so I guess we're getting pretty close to that final lap of summer, for which many of us will be grateful! I don't know about y'all, but I'm sure praying for a cooler fall and winter this year than last because it's been hotter than the hinges of Hades pretty much everywhere this summer. Personally, I think The Cajun will be happy for that, since we've had a lot of vegetable-centric dishes showing up around here that his veggie opposed self won't eat. Just yesterday, I tried, once again, to convince him to try just a bite of fried green tomato - which, coincidentally he brought home for me his very own self - but he just wouldn't go for it.

I'll keep trying, but it's his loss and more for me! This recipe uses regular ole red tomatoes though, and if you love them as much as me, I think you'll really enjoy this very versatile sauce. Here's how to make this beautiful pasta sauce made from garden fresh tomatoes. And the tomatoes. Viola! Alabama White Barbecue Sauce Grilled Chicken. Can we talk about how our kids are all growing up and no matter how much we yell at them about it, they don’t seem to knock it off?

Not fair. This growing up business does have it’s perks though. This weekend my husband and I went to see an adult movie (The Edge of Tomorrow…meh, it could have been better) and sent the kids to another theatre to see an animated film (How To Train Your Dragon 2…they loved it). They were in a dark theatre. So, naturally, I was super excited when we made the decision to do this. My babies. I swear I’m not a helicopter parent.

Are you all bright and beaming because you’re happy to be alive? Thought so! Me and my little munchkin had a bit of a girls weekend because my husband was off at his monthly National Guard drill.

Even though I hate hate hate having him away and begrudgingly let the state of Oregon borrow him, we tried to make the most of the weekend. “Making the most of it” meaning: eating all the Halloween candy in the house, shopping, cookie making, sleeping in-ing {or at least trying to sleep in–daylight savings kind of screwed me over}, mini pie making, and salsa and chips making. A good weekend indeed! AND, as a bonus, I was able to have a little free time to myself which means I caught up on blogging Yippee! Anyways. He’s a treasure. One that should be buried at sea. Oh, I’m just kidding.
