June 14, 2012 — Anyone who trains character strengths increases their sense of wellbeing, a large-scale study conducted by a team of psychologists from the University of Zurich has concluded. It proved for the first time that this kind of training works. The largest impact was evident in training the strengths "curiosity," "gratitude," "optimism," "humor" and "enthusiasm." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/06/120614074940.htm

Renaissance Souls are quite capable of bringing a passionate attention to a variety of interests, often simultaneously. My client Carlie is both a professional clown who entertains children and a Holocaust educator who gives talks on the lessons of Auschwitz. Another, Cindy, spends part of her time showing visitors from France the hidden joys of Boston and the rest of her time on importing antique china from England for sale to American collectors.

http://talentdevelop.com/articlelive/categories/Scanner-Personality-%7B47%7D-Renaissance-Soul/

Are You A Scanner Or Deep Diver?

http://www.think-differently.org/2007/06/are-you-scanner-or-deep-diver/ The modern professional world seems set up, by and large, to favour people with specific training and qualifications who have focused on and gained practical skills in a particular professional area and who stay in that area for an extended period of time demonstrating and deepening that skills base. This is the case for a variety of reasons. One, of course, is that some work simply requires that background of training and applied experience: one might not, for example, be as confident with someone who walked in off the street and said ‘Hi, I’m Jim, I’ll be your neurosurgeon today.’ We typically look for individuals with specific training and a structured path of career development and mentoring to fill professional roles such as medical doctors, lawyers, and so on. However, there are also other factors at play.
