Mass media and the transition in Romania

Daniela Roventa Frumusani In common with other countries in East and Central Europe, Romania has faced severe challenges to its political and social infrastructure. The transition from totalitarian regime to democratic society has not been easy and is still taking place. To strengthen the role of the mass media in this process, the author of the following article calls for an ‘information ecology’ and an ‘ethical ecology’ to promote quality in place of quantity.
