While Facebook has never been known for their powerful search functionality, the Open Graph may quickly be changing all of that. Thanks to integration with Facebook’s new Open Graph protocol, sites like TripAdvisor.com are now showing up in Facebook’s search results, with links back to their website, something Facebook previously never offered. We’ve been able to surface similar results, and our conclusion is that this could help Facebook expand their competition against Google.
HubSpot's Dan Zarrella Releases The Facebook Marketing Book Posted by Pamela Seiple on Tue, Jan 18, 2011 @ 09:32 AM HubSpot Social Media Scientist Dan Zarrella , whom you may recognize from his popular HubSpot "Science of..." webinar series , recently released his second book, The Facebook Marketing Book , published by O'Reilly. Co-written with social media consultant and wife, Alison Zarrella , The Facebook Marketing Book explores how to use Facebook to help promote brands, products, and services.
Note from Beth: Alison Zarella is the co-author of the recently published “ The Facebook Marketing Book .” I received a review copy from O’Reilly. The book is not only an excellent reference for many Facebook questions, but also provides tactical recommendations for an effective Facebook content, engagement, and measurement strategy.
George Santayana defined fanaticism as "redoubling your effort when you've forgotten your aim." Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Given the steady stream of data detailing the impoverished performance of advertising on Facebook (see recent reports from comScore and Web Trends , among others), the important, unresolved question seems to be whether Facebook advertisers are fanatics or lunatics. Just as I'll leave that question to qualified psychiatric professionals, advertisers would be advised to select the right people (and platforms) to help with their specific "jobs."
The meaning of a Facebook Like has been getting more and more vague ever since Facebook changed the wording from “Become a fan” to “Like” on Facebook Fan Pages. What’s even more frustrating than this is that there’s no simple way, aside from visiting the “Activities,” “Interests” and “Other Pages” part of your Facebook profile, to figure out what Pages you have liked in the past. And there’s no way to do it in an visually appealing manner. In essence: It’s complicated.

When Eric Jackson of Jackson Kayak first came to me, his dilemma was a simple. He had a great story to tell and an awesome product, but felt their social presence was a ways behind the competition. So with that, Eric and his team handed over the reigns and tasked us with building creative campaigns to reach the base they knew was there, and to grow their audience.
I set up a couple of groups on Facebook – our Wealth Nation group (PLEASE JOIN!) and the Stop the Farmville Madness!!! group – and wanted to invite all my friends, but it would have taken an eternity because for some strange reason Facebook doesn’t allow you to “select all” friends when sending an invite. I mean, they’ll let you do it… but only if you click one at a time! Uugh.

Facebook's privacy settings are extremely detailed, giving you the ability to fine-tune the privacy aspects of almost every little part of your Facebook account. Unfortunately, for most users, this level of micromanagement makes Facebook's privacy settings a convoluted mess. Even worse, these settings change often; you may think you know everything there is about them, only to be greeted with a completely different layout and a bunch of new options the next time you visit the dreaded Facebook Privacy Settings page.
