Scott Vintinner's Blog: How to configure SCOM 2007 to send SMS messages. We recently started using Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM 2007) to monitor all of our computer systems.
Our previous monitoring system was setup with an old U.S. Robotics modem which used to dial Verizon's TAP modem to send pages to our cell phones whenever there was a problem with the system. A lot of companies seem to rely on SCOM's email alerts for their notifications, but I wanted to make sure that I would receive notifications even if (or especially if) our email servers or internet connection were offline. Unfortunately I discovered that SCOM 2007 did not include built-in TAP support. I searched around for third party dialers, but found them overpriced and poorly designed. Set up SMS notifications in SCOM. OpsMgr 2012: Configure notifications. Setting up notifications for email, IM, or command channels is almost identical to how this was configured in OpsMgr 2007 R2.
This article will just serve as a walk through to the process, such as immediately after deploying OpsMgr 2012. The key difference here is that Notifications are now managed by a Resource Pool, instead of just depending on the RMS. Notifications in OpsMgr are made of of three primary components – the Channel, Subscriber, and the Subscription. The Channel is the mechanism that we want to notify by, such as Email. The subscriber is the person or distribution list we want to send to, and the subscription is a definition of criteria around what should be sent.
The SMTP Channel: We will first need to create the channel: Under Administration pane > Notifications > Channels. Give your channel a name. Setting Up an SMS Gateway for SMS Notification in SCOM - SCOM Blogs. Hello All !!
In this post I will be talking about setting up an SMS Gateway so receive SCOM Notifications as SMS. As we all know that, Operations Manager has four different channels of notifications, SMS is one of them. Setting up SMS Text Alerts within SCOM 2012 R2 - MSV Consultancy Blog. Hi All, I was recently approached by a customer and asked what my recommendations were for setting up SMS alerting on SCOM 2012 R2.
Admittedly, this isn't normally a feature that a lot of our clients use as they prefer the flexibility of email alerting through the use of distribution groups etc, but I thought I'd write up a quick blog post just in case. Thoughts on OpsMgr and System Center 2012: Active Directory Integration (ADI) Notes From The Field. Bumped into some Active Directory Integration (ADI) issues at a customers location some time ago.
These issues resulted in non-functional SCOM Agents when the primary SCOM Management Server broke down, simply because the SCOM Agents couldn’t fail over to the secondary SCOM Management Server. And of course were all these Windows servers production critical, so monitoring of those very same Windows servers was key. After some investigation it turned out ADI wasn’t in place at all, it only seemed like it. And because the primary Management Server never failed before, the customer never noticed it. Until the primary Management Server became corrupted and went offline for many days. Since ADI isn’t magic at all but requires some serious attention in order to get it up and running AND some mistakes seem to be common, I have decided to write this posting.
First of all, what’s ADI and why use it? SCOM 2007 R2 Removal. If you are looking to decommission the whole SCOM 2007 R2 environment (ie remove everything) then there is no need to remove the CU .. below assumes that there is only one SCOM environment and you want to purge it from your organisation: 1) Uninstall all agents. 2) Uninstall all core components (MS, RMS, Reporting).
How to Move Agents to an Operations Manager 2007 R2 Secondary Management Server (Operations Manager Upgrade) After you have added a secondary management server to your System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 management group, you must move the agents that are reporting to the root management server (RMS) or management server that you are replacing to the new secondary management server. You also move the agents to a secondary management server to avoid downtime when you upgrade a distributed management group that meets the minimum supported configurations for System Center 2012 – Operations Manager.
For more information, see Supported Configurations for System Center 2012 - Operations Manager. You can move the agents by using the Operations console, by using Active Directory Integration, or by running a Windows PowerShell script. However, if the agents were deployed manually, you cannot move them by using the Operations console. Switching from AD Integration to Manual Agent Management in SCOM. There are lot of articles over Internet how to enable AD Integration for SCOM 2007 R2 but so far I haven’t found any on how to disable AD Integration.
For the last couple of weeks I was faced with such task and it is not so easy as certain steps have to be followed. The reason we had to disable AD Integration is because it was not working. Probably some rights were inherited from the root of the domain to the OperationsManager OU which led to agents being confused to which Management Server they have to connect. Because of this and various other reasons it was decided AD Integration to be disabled. SCOM 2012 – Using Alert Custom Fields. In today’s world of monitoring it is not always easy for people from the service desk or even for administrators to identify from which system is this alert being sent, who is responsible for the system and maybe in a multitenant environment to which company belongs this system/alert.
In my case a company which is hosting Active Directory domains and systems for different companys (customers) wanted to have company, server and contact information displayed on the alert notification. E.g. if server1.contoso.com is having a problem, the service desk must be able to identify to which company this server belongs and who they might need to contact.
