Fruit salad is very easy to make ... especially if you have someone else make it. But to really make it easy, especially if you don't have any spare friends of the bride to delegate to, just omit the cantaloupe that you bought because only 3 fruits didn't seem like enough at the time while you were at the local try-n-save stocking up on picnic produce but after assembling the salad it looked like you would have plenty enough to serve everyone who showed up at the local park the same time you did instead of just the 8 people invited, so you left said cantaloupe in the very lovely sterling fruit basket given as a wedding gift earlier by said spare friend.
Strawberries are rather perishable, so this is not a recipe that can be made too far in advance. Make this salad the same day you plan to serve it. To be honest, I prefer grapes with seeds. I think the flavor gene is attached to the seed gene. When seeds were bred out, the flavor went with it. Gently pat dry the fruit. Spinach, Pear, and Endive Salad -DK. Carrot and Orange Salad -DK. Watercress and Toasted Walnut Salad -DK. Banana Blueberry coconut smoothie. Oven-fried chicken is so delicious, I thought I'd try a variation of a recipe posted a few years back. Last time it was "buttermilk" chicken, where soy milk plus lemon juice equals buttermilk substitute. But it's not thick and creamy like the real thing. So I figured ... why not try marinating with thick and creamy parve yogurt instead? Except there didn't seem to be a true non-dairy yogurt available at my local supermarket.
Until last week, when I spotted a new (to me) yogurt that was truly free of dairy cooties. I would have preferred plain, but beggars can't be choosy. I'll just be polite and say that I don't care much for soy yogurt (of any flavor) straight out of the container. Speaking of one of many, schug is a middle-eastern mixture of many different spices (depending upon brand or homemade concoction), with more spicy flavor than spicy heat.
I think the chicken tastes better if marinated most of the day. Oven-Fried "Yogurt" ChickenYield: 4 servings Preheat oven to 375F. Tomato and Garlic Omelet. Yummy. Eggplant Rolls with Ricotta and Salsa -DK. Almond Roca for Purim and Valentine's Day. Psssst! Can I interest you in some crack? I made a ton of different candies so far, but my favorite is this most awesome bit of heaven called Almond Roca, which I found at Mel's Kitchen Cafe. Light and crunchy. Totally drool-worthy. When I first stumbled over this recipe, I thought it very similar to chocolate-coated English toffee, and wasn't sure what the difference was. Almond Roca is a little more difficult to make than yesterday's Almond Gedillas, because you need a thermometer to assure success every time.
The only thing I changed was to sprinkle chopped almonds over the melted chocolate instead of sliced, because I didn't have sliced on hand. Almond RocaVery Slightly Adapted from: Mel's Kitchen Cafe Yield: Not nearly enough as far as I'm concerned Cooking spray (if using) 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter 1/4 tsp. table salt 1 cup granulated sugar 1 (6 oz.) package slivered almonds 1 (8 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup chopped almonds. It's that time again, Dear Reader, for another Secret Recipe Club reveal. My assignment this month -- which I chose to accept -- is Chocolate & Chillies. Asiya posts recipes that are all halal, which is similar enough to kosher that I don't have to worry about pork cooties or other major revisions. And does she have recipes! They all look amazing! With so many from which to choose, I had a long road ahead trying to zero in on just one. For about 5 seconds, anyway. You see, in a week I will be hosting a meeting of reference librarians, and as host I have to provide the refreshments. So creamy! I used whipped cream cheese in place of the sour cream, which I didn't have on hand. The recipe said to bake for 20-25 minutes, but for some reason it took 30 minutes in my oven. Update! Thank you, Asiya! Low-Fat Fudge BrowniesAdapted from Chocolate & ChilliesMakes 16 brownies Preheat the oven to 350F and put the rack in the middle.
Line a square baking pan with foil. (Linkup closed) Cinnamon and Sugar Almonds. Time to go nuts ... for candied almonds. Or as we call it, almond crack. Be forewarned -- you will need to make two batches, one for gift-giving, and one for you if you make the "mistake" of testing a few before packing them up. In the out-of-focus background is one of the gift trays I made. Several of these trays, along with 15 (!) 1-pound boxes of candy, will be divvied out to theHubby's clients as Chanukah or other holiday gifts. Candied almonds are (is?) In a medium-sized mixing bowl, use electric mixer (preferably with a whisk attachment) to beat egg white until a stiff peak forms. Add the water and vanilla; beat again until a stiff peak again forms. Cool completely. Pins and blogs. Colleen's Recipes. These are absolutely the best home made pancakes we have ever eaten!! They are super tall, light and fluffy and yet they don't get all mushy when syrup is added, they are EXCELLENT!! 3/4 cup milk2 tablespoons white vinegar (see note)1 cup all purpose flour2 tablespoons white sugar (I used 3)1 teaspoon baking powder1/2 teaspoon baking soda1/2 teaspoon salt1 egg2 tablespoons melted butter1 teaspoon vanillaCombine the milk and vinegar in a small bowl for 10 minutes to "sour".
This is an important step and it is called "soured milk" which is much different that sour milk. I guarantee you will NOT taste the vinegar in the final product. After 10 minutes, you will see bubbles in the batter, very important DO NOT STIR AGAIN. GENTLY dip out (don't pour out) 1/2 cup of batter and place it on a buttered grill or frying pan.
NOTE: You can subsitute BUTTERMILK for the milk+vinegar in this recipe, but I have had the best luck (fluffiest pancakes) using the milk and vinegar. Yummy Food Ideas.
