Clever, eh? Of course, it’s just fiction. I still have a job here at Xconomy—as far as I know. But if I ever lose it, maybe I’ll hitchhike to Montreal and apply for a position at Xtranormal , the startup that created the Web-based movie maker I used to create the video.
I have been playing around this week with a new web2 service called Xtranormal. I am extremely pleased with this really really really cool tool. Xranormal provides for teachers a very easy way to make high quality animated movies. You don't even have to create an account to use this service. All you do is choose what characters you want in your movie from a list they have available, choose your settings, abient sounds or background music, and type the dialog each character says.

Xtranormal (see beta review ) which launched with much fanfare a little over a month ago has laid off today 36, which is half of its staff. Xtranormal invested heavily in research & development efforts in the past year, understandable since they were tackling a new challenge, user-produced videos, but this mass layoff shows lack of planning, focus & guidance from its CEO & founder, Richard Szalwinski, who also did previously Discreet Logic. Many at xtranormal expected him to lead product development but he didn’t. As sources of money & funding disappear, Xtranormal is now forced to downsize its staff.

XtraNormal es la aplicación web propuesta para la creación de películas en 3D con personajes animados, guiones, efectos de sonido, y demás elementos típicos de la animación y del cine. Lo primero es elegir entre 2 tipos de actores, unos más parecidos a los Playmobil y otros con aspecto algo más real, para después pasar a la escritura del guión. Ese guión es el que los actores después reproducirán conviertiendo de texto a audio y superponiendo los efectos de sonido que hayamos marcado a la vez que se ejecuta el plan previsto que incluye gestos y movimientos de cámara. Para la ejecución del guión debe apretarse el botón "Action!" como si fueras el director.

Mr Mayo guided me to Xtranormal via this tweet this morning: Xtranormal (beta) seems like a pretty neat idea. You supply the text and choose the characters, soundtrack, set design from the site’s templates. Cool way to quickly give dialogue some life.

Yesterday on my Quick Shout blog, I wrote about a new tool called Xtranormal for creating text to speech animated movies. Since then I've had a little time to put together a tutorial video and think about how to use it in the classroom. First I thought I'd show you what extra normal produces.
Create Text to Speech Movies
I've just been playing with a really nice tool called Xtranormal that enables you to create nice animated movies. You can create a scene an a series of movies simply by choosing back drops and characters, writing your script for them and then just drop on different actions and sound effects. In many ways this is a similar tool to one of my long term favourites DFilm, which I wrote about some time ago in Make you own animated movies , though this is perhaps even better as the characters take your script and actually say it using the wonders of text to speech. Xtranormal is a great tool for generating listening and writing activities, as well as being a lot of fun. Ça permet de faire facilement des animations 3D online qu’on peut insérer das des pages web, des blogs, Facebook ou Youtube .
