Lessons from Red Cross: Twitter Mistakes and How To Handle Them

Back over the summer, I wrote a post called “ What was your worst social media mistake? What did you learn? “ If you read through the comments, misdirected tweets (tweets sent to an organizational account, not a personal account or private message sent out to all) were the most common. These ranged from tweeting about a favorite television show to much worse, tweeting the “ c-word ” Back in November, someone in Senator Dowd’s office made this epic Twitter mistake . http://www.bethkanter.org/mistakes-how2/

I'm a fake person! If you follow me on Twitter , subscribe to the Outspoken Blog or hang out at any of the other sites I write for like SmallBizTrends , Copyblogger or Duct Tape Marketing , you may feel like you know me a little bit. You may not have grown up with me or know the name of my first grade teacher (Mrs. Pizzardi), but you have a sense of what it’d be like to grab a beer with me. You know I have horrible taste in both TV and music, that I kickbox regularly, and that I use my Twitter account for equal parts educating and amusing. Because I tweet like a human, there’s a relationship where you’d recognize me in a dark alley or maybe a different blog . http://outspokenmedia.com/social-media/professional-twitter-accounts/

The Myth of ‘Professional’ Twitter Accounts

I believe this is the best, most complete and accurate list of valuable Twitter applications available on the internet right now. To be fair, I absolutely have merged and plagiarized other older and outdated lists that I found (the larger ones are credited below). However, I spent a good deal of time to clean out the dead applications, delete the apps that were overly quirky or being developed, focus more on the apps that increase productivity, and add in many of the new great apps that have come out over the past six months - particularly in the productivity / business apps section where my primary interest lies. I have also tagged the tools that cost money / have a premium option ($) as well as if they have a valuable free option (F/$). Finally, while application selection can be a personal thing, I tagged my favorite app (*) in each category. http://socialmediatoday.com/eric-goldstein/295232/most-complete-twitter-application-list-available-2011-edition

The top 10 Twitter addicts in the world

A new research from comScore , a leader in measuring the digital world, was published this week and measures the level of penetration of Twitter by country. The study presents the first 10 countries in which Twitter has the greatest reach among the online population, and reveals a surprising winner: Netherlands. It is also the country of the world most used LinkedIn, 26.1% of its inhabitants. For Latin America and the winners are Brazil with a 23.7% penetration of Twitter in 3rd place, Venezuela with 21% occupying the 5th place in the countries where Twitter is more important and popular, and finally is Argentina with 18 % and a position of seventh in the top 10. Three locations really impressive and show the big interest aroused in our region the use of social networks. Mike Lee, senior vice president of comScore, said the dominant position of the Netherlands in the study:
A few weeks ago, the Managing Automation management and editorial team asked us to help them brush up on their Twitter skills. We put together a slide deck to help us walk them through the basics (some of the participants were complete newbies), and created an analysis of how their brand was doing on Twitter when compared to others in their industry. We received terrific feedback on the session; everyone told us they learned a lot– and that it was very practical. In fact, their production director, Reggie Rios ( @riosreggie ), emailed me a few days ago to say that they especially like the checklists we had at the end of the deck. As Reggie said, “If you follow it you see results.”
