Now is your chance to poke fun at celebrities, political figures and family members in much the same way as does Perez Hilton. Videos, short recordings and sharing have become the defacto on the Internet. Mashface’s light hearted humor seems like a welcome addition to the social media ecosystem . So how does it all work?

Mashface è un nuovo servizio online in beta che permette di modificare le foto presenti sul sito catturando delle porzioni di video con una webcam e inserendole al loro interno attraverso una griglia regolabile. Ad esempio si possono modificare la bocca e gli occhi per mandare dei messaggi animati. Sul sito sono presenti molte foto di personaggi famosi, con una galleria delle realizzazioni prodotte dagli utenti, più o meno riuscite a seconda dei gusti e della propria capacità. E possibile inoltre caricare le proprie foto per poterle poi modificare.

Mashface è un sito molto divertente dove mescolare la faccia di un personaggio famoso con gli elementi di una nostra foto personale presa con la webcam e far parlare il “mostro” ottenuto. L’immagine della pseudo celebrity generata può essere distorta, modificata, inserita in una scena divertente. Ad essa può anche essere aggiunto un commento vocale. Il risultato può essere davvero esilarate.One of the things that put late night talk show host Conan O'Brien on the map was a segment where he'd take a picture of someone's face and superimpose another person's talking mouth over it. It was creepy, it was awkward, and now you can do it too with a service called Mashface . To make your own horrific creation, you pick from one of the ready-made photos of celebrities and politicians. For now you're limited to just these photos, but I'm assuming users will be able to upload and mark up their own photos in the future. Once you've found the right shot, you simply record up to a minute of audio and video from your Webcam, and it can be placed in layers on top of the photo. This includes things like your eyes and mouth, although depending on the photo, you can use the tool to mimic hand gestures too.

Montreal's Xtranormal was one of five Canadian companies that presented at DEMO 08 back in January, where their character animation software won a DEMOgod award . That technology is still in closed beta, but they've launched Mashface , a similar but tangental mashup app that focuses on the fun and silly. Like those segments on Late Night with Conan O'Brian, Mashface allows you overlay moving lips and audio on top of a picture, and saves it as an embedable flash movie. The gag that once required a blue screen and production grade compositing equipment can now be achieved through your web browser with a web cam.

Xtranormal , the 3d software company which was to make a tool to create easily user-generated movies , has launched earlier this week mashface , a website where users can “mashup” and remix bits of funny and weird lips, eyes, make-up and colors on celebrity pictures; or any other provided photo by the user. It’s stupid, fun and totally gratuitous free, as they say. Personally, I’m having trouble finding the link between their flagship product and mashface, even more so when seeing the difference between this marketing coup and their previous legendary sthealthyness.
