By Andrea Rothman (Bloomberg) — Eurostar Group Ltd. suspended services today after a train broke down in the Channel Tunnel, echoing a series of failures last month that crippled the company's locomotives and left 40,000 passengers stranded. A train carrying 236 people lost traction in the tunnel this morning after encountering cold weather in northern France while en route from Brussels to London, said Fabienne Lissak, a spokeswoman for tunnel operator Groupe Eurotunnel SA. Two southbound trains and a northbound one were brought to a standstill after the failure and were later turned back from the tunnel to avoid any repetition of last month's breakdowns, in which higher temperatures encountered underground melted snow sucked in by Eurostar locomotives, shorting electrical circuits.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/07/eurostar_failure_2/ Remember the five Eurostar trains that broke down in the channel tunnel because snow got into the electrics and melted? A train has got stuck in the tunnel again. Eurostar had claimed its engineers had fixed the problem by improving the shielding of the electronics from snow-laden air coming in through the engine inlet vents. This may not have been sufficently well done. It's reported that around 240 luckless passengers on a London-bound Eurostar train from Brussels, that passed through a snowstorm in northern France, got stuck in the tunnel this morning when it broke down again around 9am. Eurostar is not saying why it broke down, with on-board signalling problems suggested by one source.
