Let's be thrifty

Bag it! Let's be crafty. Sew alongs. Ducks in a Row: Pleated Kitchen Towel. After I got so much bloggy love for my pleated pillow, I started to look at pleats in a whole new light. I suddenly thought everything needed pleats. This week I added pleats to the bottom of a towel I hang in my kitchen, just because. Super easy, here's what I did: I wanted my pleats to be about 2" long.

I needed a bit more for seam allowance, then doubled it. I cut strips of fabric 5" from selvage to selvage-Fold and press the selvage ends 1/4" long. Fold in half (hot dog way) and press.Find center and mark with a pin. Fold lines to meet: If you were to number the 1" marks "1, 2, 3,.... ," then mark #1 would meet the center, mark #3 would meet mark #2, mark #5 would meet mark #4 and so on.

Sew pleats to the bottom of the towel. Press towards the towel and stitch. For extra fun, I monogrammed "yum" - my daughter's idea. Hang it in your kitchen and smile with all the compliments you receive. For those of you non-sewers, I have some extra that I've added to my empty etsy shop. Mommy by day... Thanks so much! Tutorial Tuesday: No More Tank Top! Have you ever heard of Cami Secret? Well I hadn't until last week when my sister told me about it. I went to their website, looked at it and immediately thought, "I can make that! " and so you can you. It's super easy! It's a great alternative to wearing a tank top.

It just hooks around your bra strap. This is how I made it: 1) Measure the distance between your bra straps, then depending on how tight across you would like it, subtract 1/2 to 1/4 inch. 2) Now for the elastic, I cut two 1 1/2" pieces and sewed them onto the back of the fabric. 3) Then I sewed Velcro onto the back of the fabric, over the elastic. 4) For some extra cuteness, I put some lace onto the top on the fabric and sewed it onto the front of the fabric. That's it, it's so easy and I great alternative for a tank top!! I liked it so much, that I made another one, with lace I love how it looks on, you can't tell that it's not a tank top.

Here are a few reasons I prefer it instead of a tank top: Like what you see? Craftsy: Learn It. Make It. Tipnut.
