Announcing Secret Boards for the Holidays! The holidays are a time for being with family, sharing great meals, and, of course, surprising your favorite people with a special gift. That’s why we thought the holidays were a perfect time to test one of our most frequently-requested features: secret boards! Starting today, we’ll be gradually rolling out a test that enables anyone to create three secret boards.

We hope that secret boards will make Pinterest even more useful. You can use secret boards to keep track of holiday gifts, plan a special event, or work on a project you aren’t yet ready to share with the rest of the world. To create a secret board from the web, visit your profile and scroll down to the bottom. If you’re on your mobile device, first download the most recent version of Pinterest for iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet. Then, go to your profile, tap on the Boards tab, and scroll down to the bottom until you see a button that says Create a Secret Board.

FORTUNE -- Ben Silbermann can't stop staring at the refrigerators.

The Pinterest co-founder and CEO and I are standing in the break room of his company's garage-size Palo Alto office. He's just flown back from Austin's SXSW interactive festival, and a redesign of his website is two days away. It's all a little overwhelming. That was before. Pinterest, for the uninitiated, is a deceptively simple-sounding, insanely addictive social media site that lets users collect and share images on digital pinboards. This growth has thrust Silbermann, 29, into the spotlight as investors and businesses alike try to figure out how they can get in on the action. Amid all the noise, Silbermann must now build out a company that can keep up with Pinterest's user explosion. Silbermann seems to be maintaining an almost eerily level head about Pinterest's success as well as the stress of running Silicon Valley's current "it" company.

How Austin 360, Mashable are using Pinterest to cover South by Southwest. If you want a visual representation of South by Southwest, start searching on Pinterest . A simple SXSW search turns up photos of musicians , event posters , styles you’re likely to see , and infographics detailing the festival’s history . Hoping to reach Pinterest users, Austin360 , the Austin American Statesman’s entertainment site, created its own SXSW boards. The boards — which showcase bands that will be performing, SXSW music parties and SXSW Interactive speakers and events — add a visual component to the site’s coverage and help capture the festival’s spirit. “You see through the pictures and through the party posters just the tremendous visual energy that there is at SXSW,” Assistant Features Editor Sarah Beckham said by phone. “I think what we’re doing on Pinterest is a really good reminder of that.” Austin360 already has plenty of visuals in its coverage.

Attracting an audience on Pinterest Mashable also hopes to develop its Pinterest presence during SXSW. </i>*} Pinterest co-founder Paul Sciarra steps down - Apr. 3. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Pinterest co-founder Paul Sciarra said late Monday that he is departing the suddenly super-hot startup. Sciarra was listed in regulatory documents from 2010 as president and CEO of the company. That's a role co-founder Ben Silbermann has essentially taken on in recent months, though it's not clear if he officially holds the title. Silbermann did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "After lots of reflection and plenty of discussion with Ben and others, I've decided that now is a good time for me to step down formally from day-to-day involvement," Sciarra said in a blog post.

Sciarra will be moving on to an entrepreneur-in-residence position at Andreessen Horowitz, a Pinterest investor. Sciarra, along with Silbermann and designer Evan Sharp, founded Pinterest more than three years ago, but the company abruptly caught fire -- and the attention of Silicon Valley -- just a few months ago. The Palo Alto, Calif. Pinterest's Hype Bubble Has Burst, And Now It Is Actually Losing Users. After its growth slowed in March, it looks like photo-sharing/collecting site Pinterest is actually losing users in April. Most Pinterest users sign-up to the site using their Facebook accounts, and AppData, which monitors how often users of third-party apps and Web sites interact with Facebook, says the number of Facebook-connected Pinterest users has declined precipitously the past 50 days.

Monthly active users are down from 11.3 million on March 1 to 11.15 million on April 1 to just 8.3 million today. Here's a chart showing the 3/21 to 4/20 portion of this 25% decline: That chart probably isn't as scary as it looks for Pinterest. That coverage likely motivated a lot of early adopter types to try Pinterest during February and March. The good news for Pinterest is that the reason the site started getting so much coverage at the beginning of this year was that it had become incredibly popular, very fast without much coverage from the media or buzz from early adopters. Pinterest Founder Ben Silbermann Live Speech From L2. The 10 Most-Followed Men on Pinterest. When you think of Pinterest, what kind of user comes to mind?
