The Student Conservation Association 's Green Your School Contest is a national competition to stimulate and/or identify conservation service projects designed by high school students that improve, restore, beautify, or conserve their high school environment.

To be eligible, projects must have been begun after August 1, 2008. Entries must be completed by a student and will be judged according to the following criteria: the project has or will improve the environmental health of the school; the project is sustainable; the project is initiated by students and engages other students, teachers, and school administrators; the submission itself is of high quality; and the project engaged the community. The Jenny's Heroes program awards grants to individuals who submit the best ideas for tangible, lasting community projects. Jenny's Heroes provides grants of up to $25,000 each to fund projects that promise long-term community benefits. Through the fifty grant recipients so far, funds have been used to provide items and services such as library books, school computers, firefighting gear, nursing home upgrades, sports equipment, free dental services, wheelchairs, coats for children in domestic violence shelters, and a running track at a women's prison.

She was presented with her award on October 2nd, and now she can put the $27,000 grant to work in the classroom. Previously, Aaron Vanderwerff and Eric Songer were presented with the 2013 Third and Second Place Awards respectively. “Art at the Speed of Light” combines the fundamentals of intermediate drawing and painting curriculum with the Bio Medical Allied Health Magnet students’ honors physics curriculum, creating an interdisciplinary pilot course. The program allows students innovative opportunities to explore and study physics phenomena through a visual arts lens. Sponsored by Gardener's Supply Company , the awards support school and youth garden programs that teach about nutrition and the issue of hunger in the United States. To be eligible for the 2008 Healthy Sprouts Awards, a school or organization must plan to garden in 2009 with at least fifteen children between the ages of 3 and 18. The selection of winners is based on the demonstrated relationship between the garden program and nutrition and hunger issues in the United States.

Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation are accepting applications for the 2008 Budweiser Renewable Energy and Wildlife Conservation Research Prize.

The prize will recognize and support a single innovative project that advances new technologies or practices that contribute to making renewable energy a practical energy alternative. The $100,000 total prize will be awarded in consideration of a project’s ability to develop or evaluate new cost-effective renewable energy technologies for industrial application while demonstrating the measurable benefits such practices can have in advancing wildlife conservation. Consideration will be given to the degree of innovation, cost-effectiveness, and transferability of the practice. Projects that demonstrate additional financial commitment in the form of cash or in-kind matching funds at a ratio equal to 1:1 are strongly encouraged. PND - RFPs - National Gardening Association and Home Depot Announce 2009 Youth Garden Grants Program. The National Gardening Association has announced that Home Depot will return as the Youth Garden Grants sponsor for 2009. NGA awards Youth Garden Grants to schools and community organizations with child-centered garden programs. In evaluating grant applications, priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of the following elements: educational focus or curricular/program integration; nutrition or plant-to-food connections; environmental awareness/education; entrepreneurship; and social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, community support, or service-learning. Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and intergenerational groups in the United States are eligible. PND - RFPs - Shade Structure Program Accepting Grant Applications from Organizations Serving Children and Youth.

The American Academy of Dermatology Shade Structure Program provides grant awards for the purchase of permanent shade structures designed to provide shade and ultraviolet ray protection for outdoor areas. The academy also provides a permanent sign to be displayed near the shade structure promoting the importance of sun safety. The academy receives support for this program from Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Company . The program is open to 501(c)(3) organizations that serve children and teenagers, ages 18 and younger. To be considered, applicants must be sponsored by an academy member dermatologist and demonstrate a commitment to sun safety within their organization. PND - RFPs - Do Something Announces "Increase Your Green" School Competition. Do Something is inviting America's middle and high schools to reduce their carbon footprint this fall through the "Increase Your Green" competition. Participants must make concrete efforts toward reducing the environmental impact of their school during the eight-week competition. All initiatives must be youth-designed and -led. A representative from each group must submit an online report of the school or club's actions to save energy, reduce waste, and raise awareness during the competition. Winners will be chosen based on the impact of their school's actions during the competition. The main judging categories are: 1) energy saved; 2) garbage reduced, recycled, and reused; 3) number of people involved/impacted; and 4) innovative quality of actions and ideas.

Wild Ones is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the use of natural landscaping with native plant species as an ecologically better alternative to traditional landscaping practices. Wild Ones members and chapters work with schools and nature centers to plant and maintain natural landscapes in these centers of learning. In 1996, the Wild Ones board of directors started the Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education Fund to further foster such projects. PND - RFPs - RBC Announces 2008 Blue Water Project Community Action Grant Pool. PND - RFPs - Richard Riley Award to Honor Schools That Serve as Centers of Community. The American Architectural Foundation , in partnership with the KnowledgeWorks Foundation , invites nominations for the Richard Riley Award, which honors K-12 schools that serve as centers of community, demonstrate innovative design ideas, and help to promote student achievement.

Sometimes referred to as "community learning centers," schools that serve as centers of community provide an array of social, civic, recreational, and artistic opportunities to the broader community, often clustering educational and municipal buildings together. These additional services and opportunities often improve student achievement and help maximize local tax dollars. The award program is open to all existing public elementary and secondary schools in the United States. A $10,000 prize will be awarded to the winning school.

The National Trails Fund is the only privately funded, national grants program dedicated solely to building and protecting hiking trails. Funding Priorities. PND - RFPs - Dollar General Literacy Foundation Accepting Applications for Adult Literacy Grants. The Dollar General Adult Literacy Grants program awards funding to nonprofit organizations that provide direct service to adults in need of literacy assistance. For fiscal year 2008, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation will award a minimum of $1.5 million in total grants through its annual Request for Proposals process to qualifying nonprofit adult literacy providers.
