Hunger Games? More Like Full-of-Brownie Games. Fine, I’ll admit it. I totally got into the Hunger Games. In a big way. I figured it was just another trendy teen book so I resisted it forever. I ended up taking it as a plane book, forgot to read it on said plane, got bored a couple weeks ago and decided to skim through the first chapter and see what all the fuss was about… fast-forward to 2am , and I was desperately devouring the last few pages! I just had to know what happened to Katniss and Peeta. So when the Hunger Games-themed cookbook came out, I jumped. Alright, so, real talk: this cookbook is really contrived. Also of note are the cooking suggestions included with each recipe, hilariously entitled “Tips from Your Sponsor.” “A twist on the classic chocolate chip cookie, this cookie is similar to Katniss’s spirit — mostly dark, with patches of light throughout.” Hahaha, WHAAAAAT. Yields 24 servings. Tips from Your Sponsor: Without the honey, this is a pretty standard brownie batter. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Okay. Vegan MoFo Day 18: Pumpkin Swirl Brownies Veganized | The French Fry Conundrum. Before I became a vegan I would purchase every Betty Crocker Fall Baking issue. It was one of the reasons why I looked forward to Autumn because I couldn’t wait to fire up my oven and start baking all the yummy Fall treats the issue offered. Last year, as a new vegan, I decided that I would purchase the book anyway and challenge myself with the task of veganizing some of the recipes in it. The Pumpkin Swirl Brownies was one of the first recipes in the book that caught my eye, so I got to work in veganizing it.

I am pretty happy with the end result, but will continue to work on improving this recipe because I feel that it can be perfected. I’ve always loved chocolate – it’s the one thing I always have a stash of, and is something that I always turn to in times of need. Be it a simple dark chocolate bar, or more fancy truffles – they all work for me. Strangely enough, I find that I prefer milk chocolate when I’m stressed, but that I prefer dark chocolate when I’m snacking ‘just because’. Maybe it’s the extra sugar content in milk chocolate that I crave in times of stress? Who knows. If you’re as variable as me when it comes to choice of chocolate, it would seem sensible to have a collection of each – just so there would always be a choice of chocolate to suit my mood. ;) This is why Hotel Chocolat’s Sleekster Summer Desserts Selection is perfect for someone like me.

But back to the Sleekster Summer Desserts Selection. My personal favourite is the Lemon & Passion Fruit Tart – which combines the zesty notes of lemon with passion fruit, all encased in a white chocolate cup. I also learnt a new term – “conching”. 1. Like this: Peanut Butter Fudge Pretzel Brownies. Dear Monday. Why must you ruin lives? You do things like fling entire pots of coffee on the floor while leaving ugly droplets on that pretty white dress and don’t even apologize. Then you take a certain someone’s keys and lock them inside while that person is outside… and the oven is on with a big fat chicken roasting in pan way too small. Not cool. I also hear that you silence alarm clocks and blow out flat irons and hide the toothpaste. And this morning you made my bed feel eight million times warmer and more comfortable than it already is and you made me hit snooze and you made me eat that piece of coffee cake while standing over the sink in my workout clothes.

Then you made me lay on the couch with a second piece of coffee cake while I searched for Nick and Vanessa’s Dream Wedding and you even threw that cashmere blanket from Restoration Hardware on top of me and made me take a nap… even with my shoes still on. And really… was it you that made Ari Gold run to Dana Gordon?? Or not. Prune and Cinnamon squares. I have been planning to bake the Keuh Lapis with the prunes in between the layers for ages now. Every time I plan to make it, something even more interesting comes on the way and I conveniently ignore the Kueh Lapis. Last weekend , as always I took the prunes out of refrigerator and was looking through the Keuh Lapis recipe and browsing through my recipe collection..

Bacon caramel brownies | Kirbie's Cravings | A San Diego food blog sharing restaurant reviews and recipes. Wednesday, August 10, 2011 So those amazing delicious fudgy salted caramel brownies (also known as Baked Explorations’ Sweet and Salty Brownies) didn’t last long. With the kids away, I might have eaten most of them..

And even as I was eating that last batch, I immediately knew what I wanted to make next: a bacon version. The idea comes courtesy of my fellow SD blogger, Three Dog Kitchen. Instead, I chopped up some bacon and mixed it into the salted caramel sauce from the Sweet and Salty brownies. I loved the addition of bacon bits in these brownies. The brownie recipe is the Sweet and Salty brownies from Baked Explorations. Prep time: 35 mins Cook time: 30 mins Total time: 1 hour 5 mins For the caramel filling, combine the sugar and corn syrup with 1/4 cup of water in a medium saucepan, stirring carefully so as not to splash the sides of the pan. The Lazy Baker Strikes Again: 'Baked' Brownies For Slackers. The other day, I wanted a snack, but our cupboards were bare. This is a very dangerous situation.

When we're out of snackables, I usually just eat way too much of everything else (random cold potatoes leftover from dinner, old candies from Christmas stockings, toast with butter and jam at 5pm), but occasionally I'll get up off my butt and bake. But it has to be something easy and quick, because when I get snacky it usually means I'm either hard at work (scoff) or bored and lazy. Enter: the lazy version of the 'Baked' brownie. This recipe, in its original form, isn't even that involved. I didn't have dark chocolate, and I wasn't about to go buy some (this is the lazy way, remember?) And I'm glad I didn't mess with it too much, because these brownies were the bomb. PS I'm so not loving this photo background... it's much cuter and springier in real life, but alas there are no brownies left to re-shoot, because they're just that good! 'Baked' Brownies, The Lazy Way Preheat oven to 350F/175C.

Sweet and Salty Brownies. I’ve made a new friend in the kitchen. Her (his?) Name is Fleur de Sel. If you aren’t familiar with Fleur de Sel, you may want to get acquainted. The bottle I picked up at the gourmet spice shop near my parent’s home was worth every penny. After toying with the salty/sweet dessert combination (like in these cookies), I finally bit the bullet and went for the ultimate combo: rich, fudgy brownies with a salted caramel filling, topped with sugar in the raw and fleur de sel. These brownies were knock-your-socks-off good. (And now that I have a jarful of the stuff, you can expect more recipes on The Sweets Life featuring it…so your purchase won’t go to waste!)
