Ch12Q4: What are some tips for using text messaging, email, or blogs to communicate with families in your program. The Power of a Comment. Kristina B., Creative Commons Attribution. It wasn’t until I joined the blogosphere that I realized the power of a simple comment. Before I started blogging myself, I would read other people’s blogs and sometimes peruse the comments that other readers had left behind, but I would never stop to comment myself. On one hand, I felt like I didn’t have anything specific or meaningfully to contribute and on the other hand, I just didn’t understand the importance of comments. Comments are more than words on a page, particularly if it’s a page you have written yourself.

This is why, more and more, I find myself stopping to not only read other bloggers but to comment on their posts. What do others in the blogosphere community think? Like this: Like Loading... Margaret A. Powers | Educator – Technology Enthusiast – Trainer. Taking a Deeper Look at #edchat & Storify. Wow, it’s official, I have now launched my first professional résumé blog and am writing my first post! I have been thinking about creating this site for quite a while but the time constraints of working and being a full-time grad student, along with the uncertainty of exactly what I’d write, had held me back. But I finally decided to take the leap and just start writing! That said, I chose to make this first post about two tech resources, one I’ve engaged in frequently (#edchat) and one that’s completely new to me (Storify).

I started participating in #edchat around this time last year and since then, have gained a lot of knowledge and online resources from the weekly chats and from following the hashtag throughout the week. I have been inspired by the sheer number of educators across the globe who have participated in #edchat and really appreciate the relevant, participant-selected topics that are discussed. Related Explorations with #edchat & Storify. My Edublog Award Picks for 2011! The Edublog Awards are back! And this year (#eddies11), I have a chance to join in the nominations since I now have this great new blog! When I realized I could add my own nominations, the first thing I did was check out the The Edublog Awards Blog to learn more about the process and history. As they state on their About page, “The Edublog Awards is a community based incentive started in 2004 in response to community concerns relating to how schools, districts and educational institutions were blocking access of learner and teacher blog sites for educational purposes.

The purpose of the Edublog awards is to promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media.” I appreciated how clear their instructions were as well as the discussion they invite on their homepage, including a reference to the fact that some people are actually opposed to the Edublog Awards. Related Preparing for the School Year In "Thoughts" Project PLN - December Issue #edchat #ElemChat #EngChat. For the December Issue, we want to do something AWESOME. We want to hear from students from across this country and around the world. Educators, politicians, parents and many more have been telling everyone what schools should look like to best serve students. Well, we had the crazy idea of actually asking the students what they would want their school to look like if they could design it! These can be group projects or a collection of smaller projects. Using this Google Doc, please sign up for the grade level you teach and have your students draw, write, film, animate, etc what they want in their dream school. We would love to have all submissions by Monday December 19 so we can put them up for Tuesday December 20th before the Holidays get the best of us. We are still looking for teachers to sign up for 1st - 4th, 7th, 10th and 12th grade.

If you have many different projects to share, please feel free to share a folder with us on Dropbox if that is easier. Best Wishes, Co-Editors.
