In October 2011 My Pathway were asked to write an Indigenous Employment Program (IEP) for DEEWR to prepare for the Housing roll out in Aurukun.
This request was initiated by DEEWR because of the enormous success the MY Pathway had managing a similar IEP around construction on Mer island previously. The model developed, training and support provided around the Mer Island project resulted in maximising employment outcomes for the community in that IEP project. These outcomes transcend fu rther to benefit the whole community through the active engagement of the locals. This project also demonstrated the group’s capacity to be able to engage and pull a community together working with all stake holders within an often complicated community structure while dealing with different clan groups and job seekers that face multiple barriers to employment and with little or no work history.
