I noticed you actually use the eraser on the textures. This means you actually destroy the original texture. Instead, you should use layer masks (Layer/Add Layer Mask). This is basically a black and white alpha map linked to your texture. Paint white and the texture is revealed, paint black and it is hidden.

This means your original texture is never affected, it remains as it was when you imported it. You could only do this with your current method by first selecting your texture and then reapply that selection on your new texture but it would require clean up and wouldn't be as fast (the results would not be very good because PS's selection methods are not perfect). Also, you can apply layer effects on layer masks by double clicking it. Give it a try, let me know what you think Other than that great tutorial, thanks for sharing! Polycount hair sculpt.

Hey guys, so during last September's monthly contest I noticed a few requests for help on hair items, and I've also gotten some requests and interest in seeing how I did hair for my recent pieces. I've put together this small tutorial which hopefully will show just how easy sculpting hair is for dota 2 characters. I'm not a particularly good sculptor myself, and I gathered these techniques from a variety of tutorials across the internet over the course of September.

My intention is to compile and present the techniques I've come across in a single simple tutorial with the help of the only Dota 2 character deserving of such gorgeous hair. If you're interested in any great supplementary tutorials, do check this one for painting hair in photoshop by Linda Bergkvist - I use it as a sort of theoretical basis to how I approach hair in 2d and 3d: My workflow goes something like this: For hair sculpting I uses several brushes.

I’ve been working on some hand painted textures for the environment piece posted above. I wanted to go with a hand painted look without going too simple. It will give the environment a nice stylized look. This tutorial will focus on the brick base for the pirate watchtower. Here is the finished texture to show what I’ll be creating. I exaggerated the amount of damage I would normally put into a texture like this for the sake of the tutorial. I’m planning on going with traditional gray stone bricks, so I started out with a medium gray color. The next step is to plan out the location of the bricks. I created a new layer set to overlay with a slightly colored gradient to add a bit of color to the brick and some vertical contrast.

To start forming out the stone texture I created another layer and ran a Render>Clouds filter. Now that I’ve got a good foundation, the next step is to further refine the brick. At this point I want to add some more detail to the stone pattern. And there you go! Cave asset sculpt texturing. Sculptris rock texture paint YT. Handpaint wood. It’s been a while since my last tutorial. And today felt like a great time for a new one. It may be the choking Atlanta humidity, or the fact that the never ending afternoon commute rain has temporarily ended. Probably a delicious mixture of both. I decided to make this tutorial showing the process I used to create the wood texture below for the floor above. Here is the finished texture. The first thing to do is lay down the base color. Next step is to lay down the planks. Once I have the planks laid down I use a small brush to draw the wood grain on a new layer.

I feel the grain layout is going to work, now I’ll start adding some depth and dimension. I’m pretty happy with the way the grain is turning out, so I continued adding grain to the rest of the planks. Now that I’ve got the grain laid down with some depth, I use an even lighter brush to add a little bit of pop to the texture. Time for some de-graining. I’m pretty happy with the way the planks turned out up to this point.
