China’s Population A large part of China’s appeal to digital marketers lies in the sheer size of its population: if you took just 1 second to say hello to each of the country’s 1.34 billion people, it would take you more than 42 years to greet the whole nation. And the Chinese blog TechWeb has already got its hands on pictures of the Weibo redesign which is being dubbed v5 – the fifth version of Weibo. First up, looking at one’s Weibo profile page, it clearly resembles Facebook’s Timeline cover, with the individual’s avatar partially embedded in a picturesque banner. That’ll create plenty of scope for amusing Weibo cover photos in the future, just as we’ve seen happen with Facebook: But for the view that most people are looking at all the time, their Weibo stream, the v5 redesign is less radical. Here we see a welcome bit of toning things down – quite literally – as inactive icons in the left sidebar become greyed-out: « Through the rising power of chinese bloggers » Acte 2 de la collaboration entamée avec notre stagiaire tout droit venue de Canton: après la tendance "Lay-Low" en vogue en chine, Yuti Lau nous présente la blogosphère mode chinoise.

« Through the rising power of chinese bloggers »

Since 2006, the Chinese fashion bloggers have been watching "fashion" that happened on the other side of the ocean when blogging was still a private self-expression platform. Not being big meat-eaters, we may never become regulars at Yakiniku Master Japanese barbecue, but we do love the design of the chain’s latest, its third, restaurant, opened late last year on Shanghai’s Tianyaoqiao road. The 300 square-meter (3,230 square-foot) restaurant seats 130 people. It was designed by Beijing-based Golucci International Design, lead by the Taiwan-born, London-trained designer, Lee Hsuheng, with team members Zhao Shuang and Ji Weng.

The interior of Yakiniku Master Japanese barbecue is a harmonious combination of minimalist modern design and references to both Japanese and Southern Chinese architecture and traditions. We love the use of the wood frame structures of traditional Japanese architecture, and in particular, the oak lattice work or screens that simultaneously divide and unite the restaurant’s various sections. We love the half-moon shaped ceiling light fixtures designed by Golucci and referring to small, traditional Chinese boats.
