Provo Peak - Utah Peakbagging

It’s rare a big mountain (like Provo Peak) gets less attention than its smaller neighbors (like Y Mountain and Squaw Mountain) but this is the case here. Provo Peak and its unnamed neighbor “East Provo” both reach over the 11,000 foot mark making them a target for peakbaggers wishing to do all the 11ers in the Wasatch Mountains. This is a fun, easy climb from the route I describe below. One might also climb them from neighbors Corral Mountain or Freedom Peak.

Loafer Mountain - Santaquin Peak - Utah Climbing

Loafer Mountain and Santaquin Peak are the two peaks that make the massive between the Mt. Nebo Group and Spanish Fork Peak. Santaquin Peak has the trail to the summit but Loafer Mountain is a touch higher. The best views and more interesting summit is Santaquin Peak. The first half of the route is in forests, the upper mountain ridges are quite exposed to the sun/wind. The trail starts out for an easy mile in the woods before hitting a sign and junction.

Since Spanish Fork Peak is one of the peaks in Utah with big prominence, the rewards of dramatic views will be granted. Along the way, there is a pond locals call a lake surrounded by scenic meadows. Follow the Left Fork Maple Canyon trail for half a mile keeping a sharp eye out for a trail on the right.
