www.WillhiteWeb.com: Your online resource for hiking, climbing and travel Distance: 10 mile loop Elevation Gain: 5,150 feet for the loop Summit Elevation: Freedom is 10,801 feet, Shingle Mill is 10,700 Access rating: Level 2 These three peaks make for a great traverse in the south Wasatch. Freedom and Shingle Mill Peak are often combined together. Peak 9622 is a bonus peak with a trail to the top if you've got the extra energy. Both Freedom and Shingle Mill have recently been officially named.
Mt. Nebo is the highest of the Wasatch Front peaks. This is a beautiful hike with minimal effort, the views start in the parking area. With 6,440 feet of prominence, hikers and climbers come from across the country to bag the summit.
It’s rare a big mountain (like Provo Peak) gets less attention than its smaller neighbors (like Y Mountain and Squaw Mountain) but this is the case here. Provo Peak and its unnamed neighbor “East Provo” both reach over the 11,000 foot mark making them a target for peakbaggers wishing to do all the 11ers in the Wasatch Mountains. This is a fun, easy climb from the route I describe below. One might also climb them from neighbors Corral Mountain or Freedom Peak.
Loafer Mountain and Santaquin Peak are the two peaks that make the massive between the Mt. Nebo Group and Spanish Fork Peak. Santaquin Peak has the trail to the summit but Loafer Mountain is a touch higher. The best views and more interesting summit is Santaquin Peak. The first half of the route is in forests, the upper mountain ridges are quite exposed to the sun/wind. The trail starts out for an easy mile in the woods before hitting a sign and junction.
Spanish Fork Trail is an easy to follow trail with a big elevation gain. Since Spanish Fork Peak is one of the peaks in Utah with big prominence, the rewards of dramatic views will be granted. Along the way, there is a pond locals call a lake surrounded by scenic meadows. Follow the Left Fork Maple Canyon trail for half a mile keeping a sharp eye out for a trail on the right.
I recently hiked to the top of Mount Nebo with a good friend of mine and I was very impressed by the hike and all the things I saw along the way so I decided to write about the hike here, on my website. Hopefully this information will be of use to you while you plan your Mount Nebo hike. The North Peak of Mount Nebo is the tallest one in this picture although during the hike you will climb both peaks shown. Elevation at the Summit: 11,928 ft. Elevation Gain: about 3,800 ft. Round-trip Distance: about 8.85 miles Round-trip Time: 5-7 hours

The Island is the easiest district to visit in a short period of time, offering many pullouts with spectacular views along the paved scenic drive. Hiking trails and four-wheel-drive roads access backcountry areas for day or overnight trips. Location To reach the Island, take US Highway 191 to Utah Highway 313 (10 mi/16 km north of Moab, or 22 mi/35 km south of I-70) and then drive southwest 22 mi/35 km.
