Five-Flower Lake, China The pristine water of Wuhua Hai, or Five-Flower Lake, is the pride of Jiuzhaigon National Park in China. The shallow lake glistens different shades of turquoise and its floor is littered with fallen ancient tree trunks. Wuhua Hai is one in the legendary 108 haizi , or multicolored lakes, in the National Park, that according to legend, were created after an ancient Goddess dropped a mirror that her lover had given her, smashing it into 108 pieces.
There are some things in life that make me feel dated (notice I didn’t use the word “old” LOL). For example, sending a fax, writing in cursive (with a pen) and talking on any phone with a cord (and twirling it around my fingers) are all things that kids born in 2011 might never have the opportunity to experience. I remember back in the days when people would say, “ I wish I had my camera with me today, I could have taken some great pictures. ” Now that practically everyone has a smartphone, we all have our cameras with us everywhere we go.
There are times when, while lurking the web – or as I like to call it – conducting online research , you may stumble upon deliciously awesome work that makes you stop, pay attention and want more… This happened to me recently when I discovered the fuckin’ (yes, so good, it made me curse) stunning collaborative work of Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg . Jamie (Photography) , and Kevin (Web Design/Motion) worked together creating beautiful and intricate animated gifs they called Cinemagraphs . Utilizing an old technique to create something new and beautiful with such attention to detail and love is truly impressive and inspiring! Check out more lovely photos after the jump! Here’s a collection of Cinemagraphs from Jamie’s blog From Me To You . It was so hard to pick any favorites that I grabbed most!

Originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Carlos Nunez is an LA-based photographer whose gorgeous shots can easily range from sweet and demure to downright sexy. You can tell that he has that rare ability to put his models at ease, making them feel free to express themselves and show us a side to them few people ever get to see. Take a look at Nunez's blog and you'll see shots we can't necessarily feature here on My Modern Met (in other words, NSFW).

The just-turned-21 Hubble Space Telescope has spent its entire life taking photographs of such enormous, otherworldly things that words stop working. And the events in its photographs happened so long ago, notions of time stop working too. But don’t speak, and forget about the time. Here, in no particular order, are nine pretty big reminders that you are tiny, insignificant, and yet part of an awesome network of particles and forces that we’re only beginning to understand. Good thing we’ve had you Hubble, to help us think about this—and, of course, spruce up our computer desktop backgrounds.
