The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing ( NASCAR ) is a family-owned and -operated business venture that sanctions and governs multiple auto racing sports events. It was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1947–48. As of 2009, the CEO for the company is Brian France , grandson of the late Bill France Sr. [ 1 ] NASCAR is the largest sanctioning body of stock car racing in the United States. [ 2 ] The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup Series , the Nationwide Series , and the Camping World Truck Series . It also oversees NASCAR Local Racing , the Whelen Modified Tour , the Whelen All-American Series , and the NASCAR iRacing.com Series . NASCAR sanctions over 1500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 US states and Canada. NASCAR has presented exhibition races at the Suzuka and Motegi circuits in Japan, Mexico , and Calder Park Raceway in Australia. [ 3 ]
The Kentucky Derby ( / ˈ d ɜr b i / ) is a Grade I stakes race for three-year-old Thoroughbred horses , held annually in Louisville, Kentucky, United States , on the first Saturday in May, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival . The race is one and a quarter miles (2 km) at Churchill Downs . Colts and geldings carry 126 pounds (57.2 kg ) and fillies 121 pounds (54.9 kg). [ 1 ] The race is known in the United States as "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports" or "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports" for its approximate duration, and is also called "The Run for the Roses" for the blanket of roses draped over the winner. It is the first leg of the US Triple Crown and is followed by the Preakness Stakes , then the Belmont Stakes .

Burning Man is a week-long annual event held in the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada , in the United States . The event starts on the Monday before the American Labor Day holiday, and ends on the holiday itself. It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy on Saturday evening. The Sundance Film Festival is an American film festival that takes place annually in Utah . It is the largest independent cinema festival in the United States. [ 1 ] Held in January in Park City , Salt Lake City , and Ogden , as well as at the Sundance Resort , the festival is a showcase for new work from American and international independent filmmakers . The festival comprises competitive sections for American and international dramatic and documentary films , both feature-length films and short films, and a group of out-of-competition sections, including NEXT, New Frontier, Spotlight, and Park City At Midnight. Sundance began in Salt Lake City in August 1978, as the Utah/US Film Festival in an effort to attract more filmmakers to Utah. It was founded by Sterling Van Wagenen (then head of Wildwood, Robert Redford's company), John Earle, and Cirina Hampton Catania (both serving on the Utah Film Commission at the time).

The Tribeca Film Festival is a film festival founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal , Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff in a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in the TriBeCa neighborhood in Lower Manhattan . The mission of the festival is "to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience." The Tribeca Film Festival was founded to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking center and to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan .

The festival began with a primary focus on jam bands and folk rock, but has diversified greatly in recent years but continues to pay tribute to it's roots.

It has also provided a platform for non-profit and political groups. Conceived and created in 1991 by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band, Lollapalooza ran annually until 1997, and was revived in 2003.
