Can You Make Yourself Smarter?
If we want to avoid repeating past mistakes, we must acknowledge that even the brightest people can do monumentally daft things WHEN studying human talent, the temptation is usually to concentrate on the upper reaches. Understandably so: we all admire the Einsteins and Mozarts of this world and aspire to emulate them. In comparison, studying the opposite end of the spectrum might seem pointless, patronising or downright tasteless. Lack of intelligence is stigmatised enough without treating people like lab rats. Yet it often takes an oblique viewpoint to find new insights into an old problem.

J’ai presque honte de le citer. Voici l’homme qui est entré à Gaza sur un char israélien en 2009 , « le philosophe des beaux quartiers » comme chante Renaud, qui ne manque pas une occasion d’attaquer « les islamistes » (formulation assez vague pour inclure les Frères musulmans, le Hezbollah, Al-Qaida, les multiples courants salafistes, etc.) et d’appeler à une nouvelle guerre mondiale contre eux , l’homme qui a toujours fait de la charia le mal incarné. Pourtant, dans un éditorial intitulé « La Libye, la charia et nous » ( Le Point , 3 novembre 2011), Bernard-Henri Lévy écrit : « ll y a charia et charia. Et il faut, avant d’entonner le grand air de la régression et de la glaciation, savoir de quoi on parle. Charia, d’abord, n’est pas un gros mot.
A chaque olympiade, on remarque la même chose. Certains pays sont vraiment spécialistes d’un domaine. Par exemple la moitié des 18 médailles olympiques de la Géorgie viennent de la lutte.

Il est très difficile de parler de l’Algérie de façon détachée. Cinquante ans après l’indépendance, la charge émotionnelle née d’une présence française de 132 ans qui s’est terminée par une « guerre de libération » de près de huit ans demeure, de part et d’autre, encore très forte.
