Zeds Dead. Zeds Dead is a Canadian electronic music duo from Toronto, Ontario composed of Dylan Mamid, or DC, and Zach Rapp-Rovan, or Hooks. DC and Hooks have been producing music together since 2004, formerly as Mass Productions.[1] In the summer of 2007, they released one hip hop influenced album as Mass Productions, entitled Fresh Beetz, before launching Zeds Dead in 2009.[2] The duo are currently signed to the record label, Mad Decent, and have released music on several others; much of their music remains bootlegged, unofficially released, or given away as free downloads. Their name "Zeds Dead" is a reference from a scene in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction.
History[edit] Zeds Dead played their first live set at The Social in Toronto on June 11, 2009. Kissy Sell Out has called Zeds Dead "the future of genres...flipping genius",[4] and in November 2010, his label "San City High" released the band's first official single, "Rudeboy". However, he ceased production of the album and began performing under the name Skrillex. After releasing the My Name Is Skrillex EP for free download on his official MySpace page, he released the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late–2010 and More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid–2011.
Both have since become moderate commercial successes. On November 30, 2011, he was nominated for a total of five Grammy Awards at the 54th Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and won three: "Best Dance/Electronica Album", "Best Dance Recording", and "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical".[4] On December 5, 2011, the BBC announced that he had been nominated for their Sound of 2012 poll.[5] On December 12, 2011, he was also named MTV's Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year.[6] Skrillex has won a total of six Grammy Awards. Origins[edit] Jones was born in West Wickham, Bromley, London.[5] As a teenager, he worked at Big Apple Records, a Croydon-based record store that was at the centre of the early dubstep scene; even prior to this, Jones had become acquainted with Hatcha, another dubstep pioneer, because Jones' brother worked on an adjacent floor in Big Apple Records.[5] As a result of this encounter, Hatcha was the first DJ to play Skream dubplates.[1] Rise to prominence[edit] Skream in July 2009 On 15 September 2008, Harmless released Watch The Ride, an album mixed by Skream, following on from artists like Scratch Perverts, Zinc and Goldie.

In August 2012, "Promises" achieved gold status in the United States. On 10 February 2013, Nero won a Grammy for their collaborative remix of "Promises" with Skrillex.[3] Nero's debut release was "Space 2001" as part of the "Straight Outta Leicester" three piece vinyl LP on Reformed Recordings in 2004. Nero's debut dubstep release was "This Way. " The band are managed by Three Six Zero Group. Martin Stääf (born 13 November 1978), aka Liquid Stranger, is a Swedish-born electronic musician, described by Generation Bass as ”the epitome of Transnational Dubstep covering everything from Latin, Asian, Eastern European and Jamaican Dancehall dubs.”[1] Martin Stääf is known for his experimental approach to composition where he merges genres to create a unique style of music. Martin Woods of Chillbase describes Liquid Stranger's music as a “unique blend of Ambience, Big Band Jazz, Dubstep and Psychedelica drizzled over electronic Dub Reggae grooves.”[2] Stääf lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Excision (musician) Jeff Abel, better known by his stage name Excision, is a dubstep producer and DJ from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Abel recently founded another label "Destroid Records", upon its debut release a full length digital album was released with the majority of tracks by Excision himself and collaborations with other artists such as Downlink, Space Laces, Far Too Loud, Bassnectar and Ajapai. Another single was released in December 2013 by Excision & Space Laces entitled "Get Stupid". There are more releases scheduled to be released on Destroid Records. In early 2012, Excision started the North American "X Tour" with Liquid Stranger and Lucky Date.[3] On November 15, 2013, Excision unveiled a 250,000 watt sound system at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield Colorado for the Boomfest event. Starting in January 2014, Excision begins a new tour covering North America with support from Dirtyphonics and Ill Gates.
Datsik (musician) Troy Beetles, better known by his stage name Datsik, is a dubstep producer and DJ from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. His first release was in the spring of 2009; he has since played at venues all over the world, including festivals such as Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, Stereosonic, Boonstock, Shambhala Music Festival, Electric Zoo and Identity. Beetles cites a wide range of musical inspirations, including Wu-Tang Clan members RZA and Method Man. He has described his sound as "dark and robotic", while trying to remain "funky and gangster" and "dirty. "[2] In January 2012, Datsik founded his own record label, Firepower Records. Caspa. Doctor P. Doctor P is the stage name of the English dubstep producer and DJ, Shaun Brockhurst (born 9 April 1986). Shaun has also produced drum and bass under the aliases Sounds Destructive (with Zachary Kemp, currently known as Trolley Snatcha), Slum Dogz (with DJ Swan-E and Krafty MC) and DJ Picto (or simply Picto). Some of his songs, including "Sweet Shop", "Tetris", "Big Boss", "Watch Out" and the remixes of Example's "Last Ones Standing" and Plan B's "Love Goes Down" have all received more than 2 million views on YouTube.[1] He is the co-founder of Circus Records, along with Flux Pavilion, DJ Swan-E and Earl Falconer.[1] In an interview, Doctor P stated that the "P" in his name stands for Picto, which is the alias he used when he produced drum & bass.

Will studied History of Art at the University of Manchester, while Saul studied English and Humanities at Manchester Metropolitan University. Bassnectar is the stage name of Lorin Ashton, a freeform electronic music producer and DJ based in Santa Cruz, California.[1] He is best known for his live performances, light shows, and community engagement.[2] Musical style and influences[edit] Bassnectar experienced an immediate sense of welcome and comfort going to raves in the mid-nineties, which led to the confluence of his heavy and electronic style of music.[5] He has been creating genre-bending music since the 1990s, using a variety of programs such as Vision/OpCode, Reason, and Ableton Live.[6][7] Bassnectar describes his music as amorphous and ever-changing, which is reflected in the diverse sounds and personalities of his numerous albums, EPs, and podcasts.

Community and causes[edit] Discography[edit] Benga (musician) Benga (born Adegbenga Adejumo, 28 November 1986) is a British[1] person from Croydon, known for being one of the pioneers of dubstep record production.[2] As a teenager he used to hang out at the Big Apple record shop in Croydon and make his own tunes at home on PlayStation.[3] The tunes caught the attention of dubstep producer Hatcha, who worked at the shop, and by the age of 15 Benga had made his first record, "Skank", released on Big Apple's own record label.[4] He was also one of the first dubstep producers when the style was emerging in the early 2000s.[5] He has been featured on a variety of compilations including Mary Anne Hobbs's Warrior Dubz, Tempa's The Roots of Dubstep and the BBC Radio 1Xtra anniversary mix.
Benga was also noted for using acoustic drums on some songs, including "Live Drums" and "Evolution", and he also used vocoded vocals in "High Speed". BORGORE.
