The Seven Lady Godivas: Dr. Seuss's Little-Known "Adult" Book of Nudes

One hundred and eight years ago today, the world welcomed Theodor Seuss Geisel, better-known as Dr. Seuss — legendary children’s book author, radical ideologist, lover of reading. Among his many creative feats is a fairly unknown, fairly scandalous one: In 1939, when Geisel left Vanguard for Random House, he had one condition for his new publisher, Bennett Cerf — that he would let Geisel do an “adult” book first.

The result was The Seven Lady Godivas: The True Facts Concerning History’s Barest Family, which tells the story of nudist sisters who, after their father’s death, pledge not to wed until each of them has “brought to the light of the world some new and worthy Horse Truth, of benefit to man.” Geisel wrote in the foreword: A beautiful story of love, honor and scientific achievement has too long been gathering dust in the archives.” The book, however, was a complete flop. There are lots of threats which governments are either ignoring or causing. Nuclear war, bioweapons, even plain old conflict are driven by resource scarcity. A likely response to increasing resource scarcity (manifest as economic problems and rising prices) is centralization of power (fascism). Finding better solutions than centralization and war is my life’s work.

To this end I’ve worked extensively with government, the military, some large companies and think-tanks – but most of all with the Free and open source community – to solve real problems. The Blog of Author Tim Ferriss

Now just 29 years old, what this driven North Carolina native has accomplished is mind-boggling, and 2017 is going to be his biggest year yet. Jerrod stars in the hit NBC series The Carmichael Show, which he also writes and executive produces. The third season of the show premieres in 2017. In March of 2017, Jerrod will star in his second stand-up comedy special on HBO, directed by Bo Burnham. Love at the Store is the funniest standup special I’ve seen in many years, and it’s the reason I reached out to Jerrod. In the summer of 2016, Jerrod reprised his role as ‘Garf’ in the Universal comedy sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opposite Seth Rogen and Zac Efron.
