They examine the role of each type of evidence in clinical decision-making, and focus on knowledge and skills needed to apply research evidence in practice. These modules describe the overall model and explain its three components in more detail. These modules explore the characteristics of different types of healthcare research, including basic science, clinical research, observational research, and qualitative research. 9.5.1 What is heterogeneity?

9.5.1 What is heterogeneity? Inevitably, studies brought together in a systematic review will differ. Any kind of variability among studies in a systematic review may be termed heterogeneity. It can be helpful to distinguish between different types of heterogeneity. Variability in the participants, interventions and outcomes studied may be described as clinical diversity (sometimes called clinical heterogeneity), and variability in study design and risk of bias may be described as methodological diversity (sometimes called methodological heterogeneity). Clinical variation will lead to heterogeneity if the intervention effect is affected by the factors that vary across studies; most obviously, the specific interventions or patient characteristics. 1471-2288-11-22.pdf. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. No? You don’t think so? Think again. Here is a good illustration of the adrenals, which sit atop our kidneys. With this ‘haze’ of hormone that is always high and active in your bloodstream (and you won’t know it until you test for it….), it creates a nightmare existence for you. Mars rules the Adrenal glands. That works for some of the population. Cortisol is a hormone that is supposed to help us meet the daily stress in our lives. And all the while this emotional storm is going on inside us, we struggle mightily to maintain a societal face to the outside world that is acceptable. The outer ‘mask’ we wear is trying to react normally to people and our environment regardless of how we feel internally.
