THE SATURDAY AFTERNOON POST: THE COUNTRY PARSON. Recently, while paging through some old, old newspapers I had saved, I had the pleasure to rediscover a simple, one panel comic strip I used to follow during the mid to late 1960s in my local newspaper called "The Country Parson.

" It featured an old-fashioned, kindly and thoughtful-looking senior preacher, usually holding a Bible, or standing outside his country church, giving us readers a one or two line sermon chockful of common sense, wisdom, and/or morality. His "sermons" touched on a wide range of topics, from economics to social mores to religion to basic simple truths. Country Parson. ComicStripFan.Com.

Four Skills to Teach Students In the First Five Days of School

Many teachers focus on important things like getting to know their students, building relationships and making sure students know what the classroom procedures will be. While those things are important, Alan November, a former teacher-turned-author and lecturer says the most important ideas to hammer home will help students learn on their own for the rest of the year. “The name of the game is to find the right information with the right question,” said November during a workshop at the 2014 gathering of the International Society of Technology in Education in Atlanta.

“My job used to be to give you the information, now my job is to teach you how to find the information.” “The best teachers were kids who had really struggled with the material and really understand what it’s like to learn.” “Kids literally take their teachers assignment and Google it,” November said. The Wideman Prize is an annual competition designed to help young people develop the leadership and organizational skills needed to succeed in the modern work place.

About the Wideman Prize Competition

Using projects as a vehicle for learning, the competition requires teams of students to select, initiate, plan and then execute a real life project as part of their studies. Teams are judged based on their ability to work as a team, organize and plan resources, achieve results and show their ability to present a persuasive case for their projects to a panel of project management judges. The competition is open to students who are enrolled in Wideman Education Foundation (WEF) approved training courses. By introducing the element of competition to students’ educational environment, the Prize is set to lift the bar on students’ achievement levels and to attract a broader cross section of students to learn-by-doing.

Teams who demonstrate their capabilities are selected as finalists in the competition. Nucleus Medical Media: Medical Video, Animation & Illustration. Drew Berry.
