Many teachers focus on important things like getting to know their students, building relationships and making sure students know what the classroom procedures will be. While those things are important, Alan November, a former teacher-turned-author and lecturer says the most important ideas to hammer home will help students learn on their own for the rest of the year. “The name of the game is to find the right information with the right question,” said November during a workshop at the 2014 gathering of the International Society of Technology in Education in Atlanta. “My job used to be to give you the information, now my job is to teach you how to find the information.” “The best teachers were kids who had really struggled with the material and really understand what it’s like to learn.”

“Kids literally take their teachers assignment and Google it,” November said. Scientists accidentally kill world's oldest animal at age 507. The oldest animal ever known lived from 1499 until the day researchers cracked its shell open, killing it in the process.

The Wideman Prize is an annual competition designed to help young people develop the leadership and organizational skills needed to succeed in the modern work place.

About the Wideman Prize Competition

Using projects as a vehicle for learning, the competition requires teams of students to select, initiate, plan and then execute a real life project as part of their studies. Teams are judged based on their ability to work as a team, organize and plan resources, achieve results and show their ability to present a persuasive case for their projects to a panel of project management judges.

The competition is open to students who are enrolled in Wideman Education Foundation (WEF) approved training courses. By introducing the element of competition to students’ educational environment, the Prize is set to lift the bar on students’ achievement levels and to attract a broader cross section of students to learn-by-doing. Teams who demonstrate their capabilities are selected as finalists in the competition.
