Cozy Nooks. Color help. I've been in the middle of a client's renovation and I haven't had time to answer my wonderful readers' questions individually. So, with apologies to those who asked for help - (and I hope this isn't too late) I will answer them here! We're renovating our kitchen and are looking to achieve the look of so many of the beautiful, serene, silvery-blue rooms you've pictured .... We're thinking we want off white cabinets with silvery-blue walls, and chrome/nickel hardware. What color countertop would help us achieve this look? By Anonymous on EXPLORING WALL COLOR: GRAY on 3/22/11 I love the palette you have chosen - your concern about it being too monochromatic is a common one. 1. 2. 3. Below a dark wood floor grounds a lighter than air feeling room. Another way to employ contrast is by painting the island a different color than the other cabinets (see above).

You are correct in assuming that a well used kitchen does better with a harder counter top surface than the marble shown above. 4. 5. Decor8. Design sponge. The Bedside Office.

U.S. Winner Daniel's Amazing Bones Daniel's 614 square foot home is full of DIY goodness, NYC style. Located in Brooklyn, it is "one of those elusive NYC apartments that was rough around the edges but had amazing bones". Willing to make bold design choices, he's created a home on a budget that makes the most of the vintage details of the apartment while still feeling contemporary.

One lesson to take away from Daniel's small scale home is to always keep an open mind so you can see the possibilities instead of just the drawbacks.

Vintage Decor in an Industrial Loft. Charlotte Mann. It’s no tragedy if you’re still not blessed with an amazing view out your apartment window or Victorian-style furniture. Or at least it’s no tragedy to a British artist Charlotte Mann – she can draw anything she imagines on plain walls with a simple black marker. Besides decorating fashion shows for designers or working on outdoors projects, Charlotte also decorates living spaces. Her marker drawings are so meticulous that they look like printed wall murals, and even give a room-within-a-room impression.

In case you’re wondering, Charlotte doesn’t get dizzy on the marker scent because she uses special odorless water markers for her work. So, if you were thinking of redecorating your plain white walls, or counting how much the furnishing will cost you, consider Charlotte’s idea – this would also make moving out way easier… Website: charlottemann.co.uk.
