I have chosen this take, as it were, because both Breton and surrealism as a way of life have influenced me profoundly as artist and a human being since I first came upon the ideas and work some twenty years ago. I feel, along with many others who have studied the movement in depth, that, for a number of reasons, surrealism has suffered a lot of misrepresentation since its inception, and I hope that this section may correct some of these misreadings (suffered mostly via the popularity of the work of Dali, and the ensuing pop-culture apprehension of surrealism as little other than a school of painting).
