Print This Post The bushel of Hatch chiles that arrived on my doorstep from Melissa’s Produce demanded some serious thinking. After I roast and peel them, what is the best use for these beauties? My light bulb moment came when I mused that they are grown in New Mexico, so an authentic New Mexican treatment of them would be in order. Off to my bulging bookshelf I went, for “The Pink Adobe Cookbook,” by Rosalea Murphy. This 1988 classic features recipes from “the Pink,” as it is called by locals in Santa Fe, where it has been open since 1944.

Between Murphy’s roots inNew Orleans and San Antonio, and the natural Anglo-American, Hispanic and native American cultures that combine in Santa Fe, this book is a feast of authentic fusion. I had earmarked her Green Chile Stew way back when. It was worth the wait! Slutty Brownies Recipe. Happy Hump Day! I know I’ve posted about these slutty brownies before… but I just made a video to go along with them and thought it would be fun to share! Happy brownie making A few weeks ago I was perusing the interwebs, mainly pinterest, because it’s my latest obsession and I spend an inordinate amount of time pinning things that I want to eat, and things that I want at my wedding. I’m not quite sure how people planned weddings before Pinterest. It’s kinda the greatest invention of all times. Clearly these caught my attention immediately. So basically after I found these I made them approximately 23 times. You could easily make these with box mix, which is what the original recipe I found calls for, but I took it one step further and made these with my all time favorite rich chocolatly brownie recipe and my favorite chocolate chip cookie dough recipe.

So basically you’ve got to make these. Ingredients For the Brownie layer: For the Oreo layer: For the Cookie Dough layer: Instructions.

A Cocktail that Travels, Courtesy of Bartender Kevin Diedrich: BA Daily: Blogs. Bartender Kevin Diedrich at Jasper’s Corner Tap We’re not trying to get you arrested. But San Francisco bartender Kevin Diedrich recently showed us how well drinks can travel when he brought a cocktail to our office that he’d mixed and bottled 3,000 miles away. The Black Cross, on his menu at Jasper’s Corner Tap, is a combination of black tea-infused Smith & Cross rum, pear cognac, red vermouth, and bitters. Since those ingredients are 100 percent alcohol, they won’t spoil if they aren’t refrigerated, so Diedrich combined them in swing-top bottles and brought a few to our office as gifts. (Thanks Kev!) In order to drink it, we simply poured the liquid over ice, garnished with a lemon peel, and enjoyed a perfectly balanced cocktail without lifting a jigger.

Diedrich tells us many bartenders are playing around with bottling mixed drinks, which sounds especially fun when it involves a carbonating machine. Not every cocktail will travel, of course.
