DIY Textbooks with OER | Mountain Lakes Curriculum. I know that we educators love our acronyms, but perhaps I went to far with the title of this blog post. However, every time I sign a PO for a textbook order and I see the price, my stomach drops. That is why I am a fierce advocate for teachers to “Do It Yourself” and create their own textbook, especially now when there are so many “Open Educational Resources” or OER, out there. This post looks to highlight some of them already out there: Boundless is a new platform that I just heard about and I am impressed! “Boundless has thousands of PowerPoints, quizzes, readings, and textbooks you can use to make your teaching more effective.

Browse any of our more than 20 subjects to find the resources best suited for you.” Since Boundless textbook alternatives align to thousands of popular titles, chapter for chapter, you can copy/paste the text and place it in an unlisted GoogleSite, and BOOM, you have an AP-caliber textbook! Perhaps my favorite tool is CK-12. The next OER resource is OpenStax. What are open educational resources (OER)? OER Commons. MERLOTx Home. MERLOT II.
