15 Homemade Meals You Can Carry on the Airplane Recipe Roundup

Taking a jet plane to faraway places? Nourishment often collapses as you step onto the jet bridge; food onboard is expensive and rarely worth eating, and airports offer their own torturous temptations of buttery Auntie Anne's pretzels and overpriced beer. But a day spent in Air World doesn't have to be an undernourished one. The New York Times offered some tips today for packing your own picnic for plane travel, and inspired by their ideas, here are a few specific recipes that will make it through security and onto the plane with you. This article gathered tips and ideas from chefs on eating well while traveling. Other ideas included warming pasta with hot water from the flight attendants, and packing simple meals like sandwiches or grain salads. • Read the story: Pack a Picnic for Your Next Flight at The New York Times And don't forget: drinking lots and lots of water is the primary key to feeling well during air travel.

Italian Meatball Sliders {Electric Pressure Cooker Recipe}

Super Bowl Sunday Meatball Sliders! This is a crowd pleasing recipe. And it’s a great big easy cheating recipe!!! And by cheating, I mean you can buy all the ingredients pre-made so you don’t have to slave away in the kitchen making everything from scratch!!! Who can resist that?! I’m co-hosting a big Halloween party coming up this weekend and I’m making a bunch of food, including the desserts! So Italian Meatball Mini Slider Sandwiches is what I came up with. . - Two bags of frozen meatballs. . - 2 Lrg Jars Italian Marinara Sauce. . - 1-2 Cups Chicken Stock - 36-40 Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. . - Mozzarella Cheese. . - Fresh Basil. I decided to make this in the pressure cooker because it’ll soften up the meatballs so they’ll be more tender. Don’t worry about defrosting the meatballs. Pour in the 1-2 cups of chicken stock to dilute the marinara sauce. Recipe for Hummus and Cucumber Appetizer Bites with Sesame Seeds.

If you're looking for Super Bowl party nibbles, these hummus and cucumber bites are amazingly easy to make, fun to serve, and I promise that your hummus-loving guests will gobble them up.

And if you happen to have any guests who are trying not to completely abandon their diet on game day, they'll love you for serving a diet-legal finger food like this. The only part that might be a little tricky to find is the black sesame seeds, but you can use regular white sesame seeds as well if you can't find the black ones. I used the European-style cucumbers that come wrapped in plastic. They have a pretty thin skin, so I peeled them in strips to leave some green color on. If you have regular grocery-store cucumbers I might peel off all the skin. Then cut the cucumber into slices around 3/4 inch to 1 inch thick. Then put purchased hummus into a small Ziploc bag and cut off the corner. Stuffed Mushrooms Recipe with Feta Cheese and Kalamata Olives. Doesn't everyone just love stuffed mushrooms?

Stuffed Mushrooms Recipe with Feta Cheese and Kalamata Olives

If you're a meat-eater, you've probably had a version of mushrooms stuffed with some kind of sausage. This non-meat version uses mushroom stems, bread crumbs, kalamata olives, and feta cheese for the stuffing, and it's another recipe from my friend Georgette who made the World's Best Tzatziki Sauce I loved so much with my version of Lamb Shish Kabobs. Recipe for Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans) Roasted with Tamari and Sea Salt. I can feel my chickpeaobsession waning a bit, but before it completely ends I wanted to share another version of roasted chickpeas I tried, just as good as the Crispy Roasted Chickpeas with Moroccan Spices I made about a month ago.

Chickpeas with soy sauce isn't something I've ever thought of combining before, but they really did taste great together. I used Tamari, a smooth tasting natural soy sauce which comes in several types. It can be wheat free, although most Tamari sold in the U.S. contains wheat. If you're lucky enough to have the wheat-free kind, use a bit less because it's more concentrated.

You may be thinking that sea salt combined with soy sauce is overkill on the sodium, but I couldn't resist adding just bit of the Asian Sea Salt made by McCormick, which is an inexpensive blend that combines sea salt, ginger, garlic, and sesame seeds. Recipe for Mediterranean Tostadas with Hummus, Feta, and Kalamata Olives. Earlier this year I served hummus at a wedding shower, and it quickly become evident that we have both hummus lovers and hummus haters in the same family.

Of course I love hummus, so I'm the biggest cheerleader for the hummus lovers. I can't imagine a hummus variation I wouldn't like, but most often I just have my favorite hummus from Costco, and I can easily make a lunch out of a generous scoop of hummus, some pita bread, and a green salad. When I'm infatuated with ingredients like I am with hummus, sometimes recipe ideas swirl around in my head and a good one comes out, and I think these Mediterranean Tostadas with Hummus, Feta, and Kalamata Olives are one of my best recipe ideas ever! I certainly wasn't thinking about this being a vegetarian dish when I came up with the idea, but it turns out that October is World Vegetarian Month, so this recipe is timely. While the cookie sheet heats up, finely chop some lettuce.

Also crumble up the feta and chop up the Kalamata olives. Polenta Tart. Pimenton Roasted Garbanzos. Baked Chicken and Spinach Flautas. Am I the only one who was craving flautas/taquitos after seeing this post on The Kitchn last week?

They looked amazing! We went through a phase a few years ago where we loved the frozen ones, but now they kind of weird me out so it’s been forever since I’ve had them.
