MORE Tips for Preserving Eggs | Preparedness Pro. By Kellene Bishop, The Preparedness Pro I was up late last night slathering mineral oil on dozens of eggs. Walgreens had them on sale this week, large eggs, 1 dozen, for only 99 cents. (I can’t believe that’s considered a “GREAT” deal now, can you?) Anyway, they had a limit of 3 dozen eggs so I made the runs several times throughout the week at all of the Walgreens in my area. I took 3 dozen large eggs and 1 dozen medium eggs up to customer service; besides, they would have to handle the transaction to price match anyway.

I then went to Wal-Mart. Steps to Preserving Eggs Properly 1- Take the eggs out of the carton BEFORE you start slathering them. 2- While you’re taking the eggs out of their holding spots, be sure to thoroughly inspect them. 3- Check the stamps on the egg carton for the manufacturer’s expiration date. 4-It really doesn’t matter if you use the cardboard cartons or the Styrofoam cartons. I hope this helps your peaceful preparedness efforts! The BEST Pomegranate Technique (No Water Method) Quick Trick.

I asked this question because I’m curious about what opened your eyes to the processed chemicals the food industry is dumping in our food. There were over 1,500 responses on Facebook to my question, and I tried to read every single one of them. I found your comments insightful, really encouraging, and some were really funny! Zero Waste food shopping probably sounds much more daunting than it is. One would assume it involves excessive preparation, a lot of hard work, and hungry days. This could not be more untrue. Zero Waste food shopping could not be easier for me. First of all I have a relatively regular schedule and know exactly what I like to eat so preparing a shopping list and thus shopping supplies is easy and predictable. Secondly, I bring my own jars and produce bags to the market and I buy in bulk so I leave the market with absolutely no packaging and can take the food from my reusable bag and put it right on my shelf at home. When food shopping, I always bring around four to eight jars and two bags depending on what I am purchasing.

Shopping without purchasing any plastic is very easy once you get used to it, and then the process just becomes routine like setting your alarm before you go to bed. I have to be honest, during the holidays it can be hard for me not to give into nostalgic cravings and indulge on foods I typically try to steer clear of throughout the rest of the year. It’s the holidays for goodness sakes and I want to celebrate like everyone else!

Unfortunately, many holiday parties in the past consistently resulted in post holiday bulge. Every January, I used to find my “skinny jeans” tighter and my waist line generally uncomfortable when I sat down. Do you know the feeling? After I started learning about what was really in my food, I made a conscious decision not to eat toxic chemicals in processed food regardless the time of year because I knew they were responsible for making me gain weight and making me want to eat more.

I have received so many letters from you lately about navigating holiday parties and how to handle them – this letter from Barbara really hit a nerve and inspired this post. EWG's analysis of tests by the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly 70 percent of samples of conventionally grown produce were contaminated with pesticide residues. The USDA tests found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticide breakdown products on the thousands of produce samples analyzed.
