Willy Verginer. Ephemeral Portraits Cut from Layers of Wire Mesh by Seung Mo Park. Using a process that could be the new definition of meticulous, Korean sculptor Seung Mo Park creates giant ephemeral portraits by cutting layer after layer of wire mesh. Each work begins with a photograph which is superimposed over layers of wire with a projector, then using a subtractive technique Park slowly snips away areas of mesh. Each piece is several inches thick as each plane that forms the final image is spaced a few finger widths apart, giving the portraits a certain depth and dimensionality that’s hard to convey in a photograph, but this video on YouTube shows it pretty well. Park just exhibited this month at Blank Space Gallery in New York as part of his latest series Maya (meaning “illusion” in Sanskrit).

Within the show will be a host of fantastic artists, one of whom is Alicia Martin Lopez. Alicia works with both digital painting and oil, which she describes rather well. Her work is mysterious and other worldly, she herself is intelligent and well spoken. Check out her art and interview! Please introduce yourself. What part of Spain are you from? I am from a beautiful town in midwestern Spain called Plasencia, in Extremadura. The most valuable lesson I learned is that there is nothing better than a deadline and the fear of showing your work in public to force you to get it done! As a student of advertising as well as an artist you have studied communication from two very different angles, what have you learned from each?

My friend told me about Brendan Huntley exhibition at Hell Gallery in Melbourne a while ago but I could not make it to the show. However, i found his work on the gallery website and I like them very much. They are very simple but very fresh and charming. I want to have one… but my friend said it was almost sold out at the opening night.

By now they would be all gone. “Only Human is the fourth solo exhibition from Brendan Huntley. Coming from a background in graffiti, Brendan now divides his energy between painting and sculpture. Working primarily with ink, pastel, paper and ceramics, Brendan probes the smokescreen of appearance by suggesting the existence of multiple personalities.

Through his lyrics or artwork, Huntley can’t help but let us know his concerns. Like this: Like Loading... Tasja Keetman. PackingTapeSculpture. Packing Tape Casting Art-Rageous Art Ed Resources Using the work of artists George Segal and Mark Jenkins as references, students began making life-size sculptures of themselves using clear packing tape as a casting material. This is a project I've wanted to try with students ever since I first heard about it! There are many wonderful sites online (searchable in "google") that show how to do this project and the pictures below show my students' progress. One of the most important bits of information to remember is that the first layer is put on sticky side UP and then 3-4 more layers of tape are applied sticky side DOWN.

Students cast themselves (with help from other students) in sections and used rounded-tip scissors to carefully remove each cast. Wrapping students' heads was the most challenging part of this project. Finished Sculptures And then we got kind of a wild idea.... It seemed like a very cool possibility and so Science met Art as we tested this. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Gallery. Inspiration, Materials and Techniques Influenced by the writers Joseph Campbell (The Power of Myth) and Gaston Bachelard (The Poetics of Space), Cheryl Tall creates sculpture driven by her own personal mythology. Tall works with a soft responsive clay that encourages repetitive shingle like finger marks. This unique texture serves to unite her body of work and gives her characters an otherworldly look that can suggest armor, petals or scales.

Because of the softness of the clay, only 5" can be built in a day. She builds the clay slowly, working in an spiral coil-pinch technique until the need for a separate layer is reached. The resultant surfaces resemble a richly textured abstract painting. Copyright Cheryl Tall Art Studio 2013 All Rights Reserved San Diego, California. How to make your own dress form.
