Enchanting Porcelain Sculptures With Amazing Chinese Designs By Ah Xian. Ah Xian was born in Beijing in 1960 and later he migrated to Sydney when he was only 12 year old.
Ah Xian is a Chinese-Australian contemporary artist interested in the human body and how contemporary craft can make it meaningful. Artist mostly uses his own family members busts such as his brother, wife and father upon which he imprints Chinese famous designs. Ah Xian’s initial experiments with life-size figures, as a preliminary to his Human-human figure, were at first he conceived in porcelain but this proved technically impossible.
The bulk of these works are porcelain, one of the most significant Chinese exports to Europe in the late sixteenth century but technical and stylistic mastery are just one facet of this exposition.
