The Kitchen Prep: Orange, Walnut, & Rosemary Muffins. Yesterday I wanted to spend the day cooking, baking, and posting all of the fabulous things I haven't had a chance to share lately. But instead, I wound up elbow deep in a box of my childhood belongings that I've been meaning to go through {because it has been staring at me from the floor of my closet for over a year a while}. I sifted. I sorted. I laughed. I cried. I gave up 6 hours in, scooped up my very neat little piles of notes, awards, cards, and pictures, and promptly deposited them back in the box they have been sitting in for ages. Maybe next year. {If you want to see some of the fun finds I came across, check out the pics I uploaded to my Instagram!} Anyway, I didn't accomplish my goal of completely sorting the contents of that {gigantic} box, but I did manage to completely clean out my closet, get rid of some things, and get a real start on Mission: Get Organized in 2013.

But now that I feel like I've made a little progress, it's time to play. For Icing: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Icing: 1. Blueberry Hazelnut Muffins + The World I Miss. There are a few things I lament about my past life – that season I call B.C. (Before Children). Now that I am a mom of three children, all under the age of 5, I miss being able to just meet up with friends on a whim. I miss just having to grab my skinny wallet and go to the market without having to drag an army of strollers out (I’m an expert at pushing one Maclaren double stroller + a single Bugaboo stroller at the same time). I miss cooking without having to change diapers or to wipe spilt milk in between – in other words, cooking without interruption.

Most of all, I miss travelling. I’m a vagabond at heart, and I’ve always seen myself as a traveller. I’ve already accepted that this is how life is going to be in the next how many years…But the really wonderful thing is that my children open me up to a whole new world of adventures. You know what else I love (aside from my family and travelling, of course)? Recipe Type: Breakfast Prep time: 30 mins Cook time: 25 mins Total time: 55 mins. The answer is because I didn’t have any poppyseeds and always forgot to buy them. Brilliant, I know. The terrible thing is, Dave really likes lemon poppy seed baked goods.

Poppyseed Bread from the not so Desperate Housewives. My mother-in-law Sheri has a large tight knit group of friends that have been together through the thick and thin of each other’s lives.

They remind me of the Desperate Housewives without the desperate part. Okay so the only resemblance to the Desperate Housewives is probably the fact that they all live by each other and know everything about each other. The women from Steel Magnolias would be a better fitting description. These women have such a history together and know the in and outs of each other’s family, kids, hobbies, work, fears, and loves. They’ve been together through babies, marriages, deaths, and even cancer. There’s something special bond between the women over there in Thornton that can’t be fabricated. Last time I was home I went to a bridal shower where once again they were all there supporting each other and I started eating this bread. The best part of this bread is the crusty glazed top.

Poppyseed Bread from the not so Desperate Housewives Ingredients Bread: Glaze: Notes. Chai Spice Glazed Doughnut Muffins. If you haven’t realized it yet – I kind of have a thing for chai spices. From teas and lattes to cookies, it’s my flavor of choice during the cold winter months. There’s just something about that combination of rich, aromatic spices that warms me up and calms me down. I’ve also been on a muffin kick lately – several of which have been epic disasters which is why they haven’t graced the pages of MBA. One recipe didn’t rise, another sunk and one seemed to implode – meaning none of them were even remotely photogenic. However, this weekend I thought I’d combine two of my favorite things into one incredibly delicious recipe – Chai Spiced Glazed Doughnut Muffins.

I used the base from my Glazed Doughnut Muffins, but this time I infused the batter with chai spices. Whether you’re craving a muffin, glazed doughnut or Starbuck’s Chai Tea Latte, I’m pretty sure I’ve got ya covered with these Chai Spiced Glazed Doughnut Muffins.
