Beer & Pretzel Cupcakes. Beer and Pretzel cupcakes- fork required. I know it may sound like an odd coupling, but it’s really such an awesome combination. The pretzels give the whole ensemble a saltiness that balances the rich chocolate ganache frosting and also provides a nice crunch to the softness of the cupcake crumb. Beer & Pretzel Cupcakes If you are not a beer fan you can easily flip these to be chocolate and caramel pretzel cupcakes (see notes).

And of course you don’t have to take the time to chop the pretzels into shards like I did. I just love it like that because they look dramatic. The first few that I made were simply piped and finished like the Toffee Crunch Cupcakes from here, but that didn’t seem like enough pretzels to me, so I ended up with what you see here. Some guy friends were having a "we're men and we like to eat meat" party, so I thought I'd whip up a dessert that would finish off the evening on a manly note. People often ask me if I make this stuff up, or if I find these recipes.

It's a little bit of both. Usually, I think, "Hey, I want to make a dessert using _____, ______, and _____. " So I do a few different Google searches to see what I come up with. Sometimes I'm successful in finding a recipe and other times I have to venture out on my own. This time, I said to myself, I'd like to make a cupcake with beer and bacon. Chicken and waffles (yes, served together) is a southern tradition. And let me tell you, if you want to get your hands on some of the world’s best chicken and waffles, here in Atlanta is the place. I wanted to pay an homage to this salty-meets-sweet southern dish the best way I know how—with cupcakes. So here you have it. A waffle-inspired yellow buttermilk cupcake topped with maple syrup buttercream frosting and a mini helping of chicken and waffles. And just in case that whole deal doesn’t sound amazing enough, let me tell you what else is special about these guys: Each cupcake is infused with a shot of straight-up maple syrup right in the center.

Why? I completed my cupcakes with a little help from another Atlanta institution, Chick-fil-A. And if you’re wondering how you eat these, I’ll let you in on a little lesser-known culinary secret: Just bite down. Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes. These didn’t start out as St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes. They started out as “make these for a friend who is freakishly obsessed with car bombs”-cupcakes. But since her visit in town coincided with the week before St. Patrick’s Day, I decided they’d be perfect to pull some double-duty. So what’s Irish about these beauties? Well, the cake is baked with Guinness Stout beer, there’s Jameson Irish Whiskey in the chocolate ganache center and the frosting is flavored with (a lot) of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Oh, and that’s John F. You could make yours without half-dollar chocolate coins—or without any of the liquor if you need to. Either way, they’re festive, funny and really, really rich. Black-bottom cupcakes. I’ve always thought one of the best lines in Pulp Fiction is wedged almost unnoticeably early on. Fabienne tells Butch that she wants a pot belly because she thinks they’re sexy on women (though, kind of hilarious, she thinks they make men look oafish). Butch disagrees, tells her she should be happy she doesn’t have one because guys don’t find it attractive. She snips back that she doesn’t give a damn what men like, before musing somewhat sadly that “It’s unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same.” And I have to admit, if you swapped “touch” with “taste,” you’d have exactly what was going through my head this weekend as I made a quickie batch of David Lebovitz’s famed Black-Bottom Cupcakes from his Great Book of Chocolate.

But, and I’m almost embarrassed to admit this, my inner perfectionist hated them as I was completely unable to get them to look like the peanut butter cup-reminiscent photo. Make the cupcakes: 1. The only difference being that the caramel filling was not published for a number of reasons, one to keep the length of the recipe down and two because they tested just as well without the caramel center. I will add that making the caramel can be dangerous! So, if you do it, please make it in a deep pot. Lastly, I had no clue just how many calories were in one of these! It was fantastic to be mentioned alongside actual businesses.

The cone! Chocolate Ganache. Chocolate Espresso Cupcakes with Kahlua Cream Cheese Frosting. My cousin Kristen is getting married in a couple of weeks and the funny thing is we just sat down to do a cake tasting this weekend. How crazy is that? I mean, we had almost an entire year to do this but somehow we never got around to it. We've talked about cake designs, colors and possible flavors but we waited till the very last minute to do the most fun part of all - the cake tasting.

Photo Credit: Ja Tecson Well, here's the deal. Kristen and Jeff, her fiance, have tasted pretty much every dessert I've ever made - from cakes, cookies and chocolate truffles - you name it. If there's one thing I know about Kristen and Jeff, they love chocolate and coffee. While Kristen and I were talking about chocolate and coffee combitations one day, she mentioned that she really loved the chocolate covered espresso beans from Trader Joe's.

To save time, I whipped up some cupcakes for the cake tasting instead of baking a whole cake. Frosting:8 oz. bar cream cheese, cold 1 tsp vanilla extract 4 Tbs. Banana Bourbon Cupcakes. I feel like I’m committing a major sin or something. I mean… cake, bananas, chocolate, frosting… bourbon. What the what. Though I bet you’re not that surprised since I trash up desserts and well, food in general, any chance I can. It’s my favorite thing to do by far. Yeah. This is sort of what it looks like when I get dressed in the morning. And the end result is no where near as wonderful as bananas and bourbon and chocolate and cake and frosting and gluttony. Oh and those things on top are just some crushed toffee pieces that I added because I am obnoxious. Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes Recipe | Sugar & Snapshots. The name of these cupcakes alone makes me want to take a shot. But it’s ok, it’s 4pm here. If you are not familiar with this shot that inspired this amazing confection let me give you a brief rundown. You get a small tumbler filled with Guinness (I am a HUGE fan of Guinness). Then you layer a shot glass with Jameson Whiskey, and Bailey’s Irish Cream. Just before you’re going to drink you drop the shot into the beer and quickly drink before the Bailey’s curdles in the beer. Now, this might not sound delicious, but trust me it’s soooo delicious. The “Snack Morris” Cupcake. You ever notice how sometimes thoughts and conversations can go on tangents? How you can start talking about the semi truck you just passed on the highway, and then without missing a beat end the same conversation talking about manicures and nail polish? This cupcake kind of happened like that. One thing led to another and a conversation about Dream Phone ended with a girlfriend and I deciding that we would each dedicate the rest of our lives to launching a Saved-by-the-Bell concept bakery, “Saved by the Cupcakes.” It’s brilliant, really. Every cupcake in the shop is named after a reference to Saved by the Bell.
