Why Text Based RPG Games Are A 'Must' For Every Roleplayer | Iron Realms MUDs. By Lisa Ohanian and Jeremy B Saunders I remember what roleplaying was like before I discovered text based RPG games. I've played a lot of RPGs in my time, but all of them left something to be desired. I either couldn’t customize my avatar enough to match the picture in my head, or none of the pre-written dialogue options fit my character’s personality, or the game mechanics didn’t allow for my character to change and grow like I wanted.

The sad truth is that most roleplaying games with graphics have to be like this; there is only has so much room for your character to be unique. Online text games, however, are nothing like this – and that’s why anyone who truly likes to play an in-depth character is bound to fall in love with them. In text based RPGs, the lack of graphics means the lack of a pre-programmed ‘realm of possibility’. For example, text games allow players to design practically everything that others will experience in relation to their characters. Zork. When Zork was published commercially, it was split up into three games: Zork: The Great Underground Empire - Part I (later known as Zork I), Zork II: The Wizard of Frobozz, and Zork III: The Dungeon Master.

Story[edit] Setting[edit] FrobozzCo International is a fictional monopolous conglomerate from the game.[4] FrobozzCo products are littered throughout all Zork games, often with humorous effect. Plot[edit] Zork I[edit] The game takes place in the Zork calendar year 948 GUE (although the passage of time is not notable in gameplay).

The ultimate goal of Zork I is to collect the Twenty Treasures of Zork and install them in the trophy case. Placing all of the treasures into the trophy case scores the player 350 points and grants the rank of "Master Adventurer. " It is possible to score all 350 points in 223 moves (and win the game completely in 228 moves)[5] by exploiting a bug. Zork II[edit] The Wizard of Frobozz is soon introduced. Like its predecessor, Zork II is essentially a treasure hunt. Best Text Based RPG I've Ever Played. Zork. Online text-based role-playing game.

An online text-based role playing game is a role-playing game played online using a solely text-based interface. Some online-text based role playing games are video games, but some are organized and played entirely by humans through text-based communication. Over the years, games have used TELNET, internet forums, IRC, email and social networking websites as their media. There are varied genres of online text-based roleplaying, including fantasy, drama, horror, anime, science fiction, and media-based fan role-play.
