The last Android offering – the inTouch Max GW620 – came with a slide-out keyboard, but this time the keyboard has gone. Aimed at the middle range market, the Optimus GT540 comes in at about £150 on PAYG and we found it free on contract for as low as £15 a month. Can it do enough to show Android off to the best of its powers, do the platform proud and please its intended market at such a low price? In terms of look and feel, the LG Optimus GT540 punches above its weight. The curvature of the top and bottom edges, and the faux brushed-metal finish look rather good.

We like the waved panel where the Call, End/Power and Home buttons sit, too, as it's noticeably different from the norm. When it comes to internal specs, it is worth pointing out that the LG Optimus GT540 runs Android 1.6. One oddity is that the right side also contains the Android search button. HTC Wildfire review. The Wildfire comes in and supplants the Tattoo as HTC's mid-range device, offering up the now established Sense interface running over Android 2.1.

HTC Wildfire review

Changes from the Tattoo centre around improved build quality, a capacitive display and styling that owes much to the flagship HTC Desire handset. Those changes make quite a difference as the Wildfire is an attractive-looking device, fusing metals and plastics. A metal band sits across the back to provide that premium feel, with rubberised plastic most noticeably giving a soft feel to the subtle chin at the bottom of the phone.

We particularly like the cut-out speaker holes on the front, exposing the bare metal, giving it a classy look, which belies its affordable status. The Tattoo's odd arrangement of buttons has been removed, with the Wildfire now offering four touch controls across the bottom of the screen: Home, Menu, Back and Search. One thing that stands out is the delay whilst HTC's live widgets update. Verdict. Should you buy the Samsung S5230 Tocco Lite? Launched in 2009, it was the top seller in that year, and introduced millions to the joys of touchscreen. It has now been replaced by the Tocco Lite 2. With a good size screen (3 inches) and high resolution, Samsung's TouchWiz user interface works well on the Tocco Lite. Samsung Monte GT-S5620 review from TechRadar UK's expert reviews of Mobile phones. Samsung's touchscreen mobile phone onslaught shows no sign on stopping, with the Monte arriving on the heels of the Samsung Genio Touch, Genio Slide and Galaxy Portal.

Built around a 3-inch 240 x 400 (WQVGA) touchscreen, the Monte uses Samsung's TouchWiz interface, and that means it has a focus on widgets. The Monte is pre-loaded with widgets for several social networks, YouTube and BBC iPlayer access, and shortcuts to phone functions and apps. A physical keyboard is completely eschewed here, in favour of a soft keyboard on the touchscreen. It has haptic feedback, giving a small vibration when you press certain buttons. I am immediately reminded of the F490, the F700, LG's KF600, and of course the iPhone in both its original and 3G flavours. Well, here we go again with the Samsung Tocco, which is available from all the major network operators from free depending on your contract choice. My review sample came from Orange. This time around, just to help differentiate the Tocco from the crowd, Samsung has come up with what it calls a unique user interface that lets you personalise how you use the phone. I'll get to that in a moment. This is a mobile phone that shouldn't trouble most pockets. Just to add a little something extra to proceedings, the phone comes with a second battery cover that has a screen protector attached to it.

The touchscreen user interface uses the "award-winning" Croix UI, with haptics (vibration) for tactile feedback. It's a very good looking phone with a brushed metal finish and is supplied with a leather case to help protect it from scratches. The phone is very compact, but the screen is rather small at 2.8 inches and a low resolution of 240 x 320 pixels.

The touchscreen interface works well enough. Most people seem to have no problems using the phone, although fast texting can be a bit of a mission. The Tocco has a good music player (as you'd expect) that can play most file formats and has the advantage of having an FM radio included.
