The proliferation of social networking and current developments in service-based platforms (what has become known as 'cloud computing') provide explicit examples of the privatization and commodification of social production. What becomes clear is that our experience of the web is bound to inherent paradoxes that are reflected in its technical organization. One of the foundations for its critique relies on the recognition of the ways in which the energies of peer production and social exchange have been expropriated from the commons by the market.

Give kids a playful environment that they can interact with freely, and a cute Robot that they can control via simple instructions, and … just like that, they will start learning basic programming concepts and logic. This, at least, is what RoboMind is designed to do; and it works; I’ve seen it first hand, demonstrated on my children, who picked it up and ran with it just like that, writing what looked like rudimentary code without hardly any learning curve. It is simultaneously quite remarkable yet so very simple. RoboMind is multiplatform (Windows, Linux, Mac) and is free for personal home use, although schools and institutions need to purchase licenses. Read more »

Homemade synthesizer

This is the second synthesizer I made. It was made for playing on stage and to be worn like a guitar. I like this design because the audience can see what I am doing. It is made from biscuit tin metal, the knobs are made from a broom pole that I have cut up.

After the Singularity, heaven will be filled with pop-up ads

I'd point out that humans are just as vulnerable to the halting problem as we are, as all minds are. For example, the issue of your god creature, does it exist or not? Can you prove or disprove that logically?
