The gTablet is Viewsonic's entry into the sub-$500 Android tablet market. While there won't be any shortage of cheap Android tablets, readers, and toasters (we have to beat the PreCentral guys in the race for the first smart toaster!) Come this Friday, a few stick out hardware-wise, and the gTablet is one of them. Just so happens that I got a few days of one-on-one time with a gTablet, so what better way to play with it than to give it a quick review. Normally, none of us here would dare review a device we haven't put through the paces, but this one's a bit different, because this is much more useful before Black Friday than it would be after.
The Hardware First, let's take a quick look at the gTablet itself. YouTube link for mobile viewing Yes, it's a slick package. Viewsonic G Tablets is a must have Android tablet. Recently meaning a few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to do some developing for Android and wanted to go and get a larger tablet to experience what apps would need on larger screens.
Anyhow after a little research and reading reviews, the G tablet was the best one on the market. It has very good hardware and will out perform all tablets after a little work on the Android OS. That is the down fall. The Tap-n-Tap interface that is installed on the G tablet leaves something to be desired. However it does perform pretty good with the current updates that are offered by Viewsonic. The thing that gets me is the fact that these tablets are being pulled from shelves due to returns from customers. One thing that really puts a big golden star on this device and that is the developer community that is behind this tablet.
