Our first product, the Ember Pack, is designed for a multi-dimensional lifestyle, but it’s also kind of a Lego set for grownups. 3) CRAFTSMANSHIP, CRAFTSMANSHIP & CRAFTSMANSHIP. 2) How would you describe your design aesthetic and what influences the style of Ember? It’s function first, but beyond that, modernist design principles are the backbone of our aesthetic. We start by thinking through the scenario for everyday use to make sure we have a complete solution in mind. 4) What are you working on at the moment? We love genuine products and fashion in general; finding new trends, imagining new products and developing new ideas for bags. We love to go to the workshop in the South of France, and work with craftsmen on product development, looking for the right silhouette, finding the right place for stitching, brainstorming, and together finding the best solution for new designs and new styles. The latter was the reaction when Carryology first came across the Prism backpack…and it seems we weren’t the only ones to have this reaction. The Prism backpack concept, created by Luke Mastrangelo, was chosen as a finalist for the 2013 International Design Excellence Awards. Luke graduated from Georgia Tech and currently works at New Deal Design in San Francisco as an industrial designer. You set out to design a pack that was comfortable, stylish, compact and durable and that would protect digital goods.

Coxa Carry reroutes backpack straps to free your arms

The folks behind the Coxa Carry system leave the pack alone and focus on the straps and belt, creating a solution that they believe is more comfortable and functional than the typical set of shoulder straps. Engineer Claes Bergkvist grew up as a scout in Sweden, trekking and exploring the grand wildernesses of his home country and beyond. He always found traditional backpacks uncomfortable and heavy on the shoulders, a problem that continued to plague him as an adult.

By pulling the weight off the shoulders and distributing it onto the hips – kind of like a frontal backpack suspension system – the redesigned strap system is said to make the backpack feel lighter and take pressure off the shoulders. Source: Coxa Carry Share.
