On the ground, the 17-year-old, who was on a family trip to China, quickly spotted a source for much of the thick haze hanging over the city: smog-spewing motorbikes. Thousands of them, everywhere. "Right then," he says, "I decided that I wanted to create an alternative mode of transportation, something clean and compact. " When he got home, Gulak drew up a plan for an all-electric unicycle that would emit no fumes and, he figured, be easier to weave through crowded streets than a standard two-wheeler.

Uno (dicycle) The original Uno is controlled in forward motion by the rider shifting weight over the centre of gravity.
When the rider shifts forward, the vehicle speeds up to regain balance, when the rider leans back, the vehicle slows. Steering is controlled by side-to-side motion of the rider. The vehicle senses this shift and raises one of the two wheels to allow the vehicle to tilt in the desired turn direction. The Uno III has two configurations, as a dicycle and as a tricycle. As a dicycle it operates much the same as the original Uno with forward and back motion of the rider affecting acceleration. Self-balancing unicycle. The problem of creating a self-balancing unicycle, a self-powered unicycle that balances itself in three dimensions, is an interesting problem in robotics and control theory.
The theoretical work on the unicycle problem is complemented by work on the construction of actual mechanically ridden unicycles. Control theory of the self-balancing unicycle[edit] To first order, a self-balancing unicycle can be considered as a non-linear control system similar to that of a two-dimensional inverted pendulum with a unicycle cart at its base: however, there are many higher-order effects involved in modelling the full system. Rotation of the drive wheel itself can provide control in only one dimension (i.e., forwards and backwards): control in other dimensions generally requires other actuators, such as auxiliary pendulums, reaction wheels, or control moment gyroscopes attached to the main unicycle pendulum.

On one hand, it was the stuff of science fiction fantasy, a single wheel motorcycle powered by zero-pollutant electric motor. On the other hand however, it was just that, a stuff of sci-fi fantasy like flying cars, human-like robots, and teleportation. That was our mindset till a review by the good folks at Engadget that made us thought otherwise. A product of engineer Chris Hoffmann’s endless tinkering, the RYNO Motors Micro-Cycle is just that, a small single wheel personal transport. With some control differences on its handlebar, the vehicle operates pretty much like a small scooter.
